In general, I would agree too. Except that a giant ferris wheel would become THE defining feature of the skyline. I would much rather just see more skyscrapers. Lots of them.

^^^Agreed, we don't need a ferris wheel dead smack in the middle of Atlanta, nor is it an original idea. It's bad enough we have those antennas in Midtown behind Checkers obstructing the view, no more.

It's not that bad now that the tallest antenna is almost finished being disassembled.

Good read. Makes sense that the best ideas will win-out over the bad ones. I say go for the ferris wheel, pirate museum, any of the weird stuff. If it's successful it'll be profitable and have staying power, if not then it'll go away.

And once the GWCC is completely remodeled, with its HUGE front door on an overhauled Marietta Street, this city will be screaming for even more big events *ahem*Superbowls*cough*WorldCup*ahem*

In 2008, for the Atlanta Falcons vs St. Louis Rams playoff game, they had
F

C

down the southwest face of 191 Peachtree. I have a picture somewhere in my archives from Falcons games. It was pretty sweet.

I can't find the image I'm thinking of, but before the 2016 Olympic vote all the buildings around Grant Park lit up with messages. Here is Aon and BCBS, but the panorama of the whole skyline was even cooler.

Wow, if we had more buildings, we could make all kinds of nighttime Falcons signs!

Anyone know of a website where they talk about buildings and stuff?

World Of Coca Cola Expanding

Atlanta Business Chronicle - by Douglas Sams
. ..The Coca-Cola Co. plans to expand the World of Coca-Cola — the latest attraction aiming to raise its profile around Centennial Olympic Park.

Coke plans to add at least 3,525 square feet of exhibit space on the southeast side of the downtown Atlanta museum site. The expansion would create a plaza for private functions and events.

In a statement to Atlanta Business Chronicle, Coca-Cola said the expansion enables “the attraction to further tell the story of the company’s rich history and enhance the visitor experience.”

So it looks like they're expanding closer to the sidewalk. Maybe it'll lead to a more profound presence on the corner of Baker and COP Drive? That large red Coke sign should be higher off the ground, and right on the corner, instead of facing Allen Plaza. My $0.02.

~~~
FINALLY!!!!!!
More IMAX for Atlanta
No, to preserve the "architectural integrity of the museum" the expansion is occurring underground at the corner of Baker Street and COP Drive. There will be a new terrace built, but it will be for the use of museum patrons, not the public. The building will appear no closer to the street.
