Just because stucco is being used on a portion of the building doesn't mean it's going to be sh*t. Get over this stucco = bad BS.

LG are great appliances and above the GE standard we typically see in most condo developments.

Rumour on the street is that Sunlife purchased the Crosstown site. Apparently for some big bills, like $2-million/acre. Still not 100% confirmed.

Seeing that Sun Life has their sign on Oliver Square, this does not bode well for Crosstown. I fear more strip mall.

Question: did Sun Life fund/develop Oliver Square, or was it a later acquisition by them?

I beleive it was CNRE (CN Real Estate) who developed the land, and then sold it to Sunlife.

About River Valley Clean Up
For the past 24 years, thousands of city residents have volunteered their time each spring to clean up our river valley park system. After all, a clean and safe Edmonton is a shared responsibility.

In 2011, 122 groups, consisting of 3,006 volunteers, scoured the parks system as well as the shoreline of the North Saskatchewan River, picking up litter.

If you share this passion for Edmonton’s gorgeous natural resource, talk to friends, family, co-workers or community members about picking a day during our warm-weather months to conduct a cleanup.

This year the 25th Annual River Valley Clean Up kicks off on Sunday, May 6. Watch this page for the kick-off location and join us for the fun. You can choose your own area, or let us provide you with a site. We also supply gloves and garbage bags. If you and your group are keen to clean up on another day, let us know so we can keep track of all our dedicated volunteers. Contact information is below.

The City of Edmonton wants to thank all of those volunteers who have cared so much about our river valley over the past 24 years. Hope to see you in 2012.

Anyone wanting to see some real heavy metal should keep their eye on Churchill Square from the 3-9.

There is a major mining conference in town and they will be exhibiting some large hauling equipment, such as a Cat 777.

^ Also of note if you are into big machinery, there a massive mobile crane at the Esso site adjacent the SPF, I think it may be the biggest crane I have ever seen. There must be a pretty huge lift going on.


^^ The Parkdale-Cromdale league is coordinating a clean-up of Kinard Ravine along with the Friends of Kinard Ravine Society that is a non-profit group working under the PCCL umbrella. We are having events and a BBQ along with this as we work with the city to have the ravine designated as an active recreation area. If you are in the north-central / east Jasper area come check it out... will post dates when finalized

Everyone should get out and pitch in to clean up their little portion of the city.

Block parties are community-building events in Edmonton

Charlie Letourneau, her next-door neighbour explains, “We spend six months of the year scurrying from our houses to our vehicles and driving away. You don’t get much of a chance to chat it up with the neighbours because it’s just so darn cold outside.

“Come springtime, that’s when you actually start to linger outside,” Letourneau continues. “A block party is just the perfect excuse to spend more time getting to know the neighbours, chatting things up, and sharing a meal together.”

My good friend Valda has been organizing the 94th street Block Party every year for the past 11 in Alberta Avenue. It's always a lot of fun and has brought the street together in a way that few neighborhoods in this city ever experience. Those efforts helped to cement the area as Edmonton's arts hub, to the point that complete strangers now knock on peoples' doors asking if they are interested in selling their houses becuase they want to live in that kind of neighborhood.

I saw that on my way out to Henday on Friday, it is incredibly huge. I wish I could have stopped to snap photos, but alas, I was on my way to the Expo in Calgary.

Which is why the winter city strategy recommendation group is working to make 'those other 6 months' more active within communities. Growing up in Ottawa we did a bunch of great community events in the winter. Skating, BBQs, snowman building competitions, winter olympics, tobogganing etc. Shame people see it as hibernation season.

Tag is the latest retailer opening in Edmonton as the region continues to attract expanding Canadian and foreign chains.
