EDC looks very high quality in finishes and glass. I think it's probably a glass building done right, though I'm no expert. When I look at Claridge Plaza I and II I feel like it will look dated and start falling apart in 10 years.

yeah, you're right the Parkdale one does look better than what it was before, and the idea of the brown and beige wasn't a bad one in concept, but in execution it's still not what I would call "good," and I wonder how much more it would have cost to do something that would have actually looked good?

I grew up around there. That area was supposed to become some kind of bio-technology / medical services business park. I guess the city has given up on that idea.

Modern looking. At least this one has real balconies unlike the building at the other end.

I'm also not a fan of the art that was selected. I actually liked the people+pigeons sculpture. It's nice to walk down a street and see a set of thematically connected pieces. Even better if they tell a story.

Heck, I'd would have rather seen some bronze sidewalk plaques that have riddles. Do a couple of every block, with the answer always on the next plaque. Something that draws you down the street. Call it start it off with a comic strip style plaque of a little kid asking (incorrectly) why it's called Riddle Street. And have the dad provide a Calvin & Hobbes-esque answer.

It will be sad to see them go. They were very considerate and helpful neighbours to the hospital across the street. They opened their lot for visitor parking after hours, and provided well-maintained pedestrian connections to it. Considering many people in that hospital are there for years and have little or no mobility, making it easy to visit them was a significant if relatively unknown contribution to the city.

Definitely Metcalfe should be turned into a two-way street, as it is a lousy one-way ending awkwardly on both ends. It would also work great with north-south segregated bike lanes, which would certainly make the Bixi system much more attractive to use downtown. Solving the stupidity of the World Exchange parking ramp (why the hell did the city allow them to use up the road right of way for this?) will be a problem to face.

They probably offered to provide a nice public plaza. And the volume of cars proceeding north past the World Exchange Centre is minimal. I know. I drive there every day at rush hour.

Anyone know what's been proposed for the 880-900 Block of Bronson @ 5th avenue (south east corner)?
There's an application posted on the site for a 5 storey 43 unit condo building - but i have no details beyond that.



Edit: it can't have a very big footprint given Second Ave West is 4 storeys and 68 units...

Details are a bit scant, but the city’s got a notice up about a zoning application to replace some older houses on Bronson Avenue between Fifth and Holmwood with a five-storey building holding 44 units. On the one hand, Bronson’s a major artery and the edge of a neighbourhood, so it’s the kind of thing the city’s planning department generally tends to go for, but it’s also mid-block and has shorter buildings on either side (the new building would replace a total of four semi-detached units, the ones at the centre and right of this Street View shot), so it’ll be a bit odd.

Between this and two other projects a bit farther north, closer to Carling Avenue and Glebe Collegiate, this is definitely a new warm spot for redevelopment.

From the Champlain Bridge we can see a crane which probably just past the Charlesfort's Continental. Looking at the thread regarding the Richmond and Woodroffe project, I would doubt that it would be for that project. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't think it's the Roosevelt project either. Maybe something at Carlingwood - they had a project there or nearby as well there if I remember.

You're probably seeing the crane just off Woodroffe north of Carlingwood mall at the site of the old YMCA. Claridge is building a retirement home there now. I believe 6 floors tall.

Building on the corner of Roosevelt and Richmond (the 4 storey office building). Now it has buff coloured brick and seems to have smaller windows than before (I think).
