This is true however the cost per unit in 3 10 story buildings would be greater than the cost per unit in 1 30 story building. Given the push to increase the downtown population higher density might be the better option for cost of living.

I advocate for both. If downtown London ever gets on a tear, we don't want all the best spots occupied by stumpy buildings. Density in the form of highrises is part of the prescription, along with other forms of infill.

http://www.lfpress.com/2015/10/13/wonderland-and-wharncliffe-roads-plaza-plan-raises-questions

Similar to what we have all discussed int he past, are these new developments going to bring in people from outside the city or just shift the retail and hurt other spots in London. I personally think the development on Wonderland/Wharncliffe is just going to shift business, no way is someone coming to London for a friggen Lowe's that was not already coming to London to go to Homedepot....

Now the Penn Equity development might make people stop in London if they are driving by simply because you can see it from the 401 and is much more accessible. Plus I keep praying a Bass Pro Shop or Cabela's somehow goes into the Penn Equity site, as that would make people stop.

Finally, people are questioning this development. As long as Joe Fontana was mayor, this development was going to create part of the 10,000 new jobs. The reality is this could easily be a repeat of the shift from Westmount to Southdale and Wonderland and create net zero jobs.

In an attempt to return the focus from shopping plazas to er, uh, skyscrapers attached below is an attempt at a comparative analysis of the more defined proposals for the downtown.

and worse than that, another deadzone and the depressed effects on the environs.

Great diagram Snark, would be great to see a new tallest in London.

Regarding the Fullerton project, I have not heard this either?? I thought they did actually own the land now (old hakim optical building??)

Rygar (whoever that is) never owned the land at 100 Fullerton. They presented the project to council and the media and never even owned the friggin' land it was supposed to be built on. They still don't. Hence IMO, this project is stillborn and was always on shaky ground from day one. It also, IMO, raises a serious credibility issue: when Rygar (or rather their lawyer and planners) unveiled this proposal it was claimed that people would be living in this tower by this point in time, when in reality absolutely nothing has transpired in the field.

They apparently now do own the row of heritage buildings on Talbot next door to the 100 Fullerton property, and the crappy building next door to that at the corner of Talbot and Duffern which houses Hakim Optical. They now claim they are going to build something at that location (which would be across the street from 505 Talbot). Over a month ago they claimed they were going to unveil this new proposal "within weeks" but as of now still nothing but crickets. Whether their revised proposal even resembles their old one remains to be seen, or for that matter if there is anything more to "Rygar" than PowerPoint towers and smoke and mirrors.

Are the 195 Dundas heights an estimate or did you find them in the proposal?

City Center towers are getting a makeover. Greying out some of the concrete. So far so good.

Wow. I noticed all the scaffolding around the Wellington plaza, but didn't look up at the towers. Might actually have a significant impact on their appearance.

@Snark: very cool.

This little reno/reclad was totally unexpected, so I'm having a good time watching it progress. Thanks again for posting, Rosso!

View from the west as of today. Any guesses what those blue windows might mean?

My guess is new windows. They were pressure blasting the frames of all the windows before they started painting, probably to remove the caulking.

Regardless, this reface should majorly improve the skyline. Good on them.

They had another urban design peer review panel meeting last week and 50 King Street (Middlesex County) proposal was part of that meeting. Apparently it is a nice glass tower close to 30 stories tall. We will see details early next week.
