Looks like they are building a covered judging platform for boat races. They are also adding additional plants, turf, and fixing the waterfall plumbing.

Pine Island in Wascana Centre closes for improvements

Pine Island in Wascana Centre will be receiving a new look in the coming months.

Construction of a new finishing line facility on the island is to begin in April.The island, located on the south shore of Wascana Lake near Broad Street, will be closed due to the construction beginning April 1 and will remain off limits until the work is completed in July. The new facility will be ready and available for use in time for the North American Indigenous Games.

The new facility will benefit the many varied races that take place on Wascana Lake throughout the year. Competitive racing, rowing, canoeing, and kayaking all end at Pine Island at a line extended from a multi-tiered judges’ platform on the west side of the island to the water. The platform was designed when Pine Island was developed in 2004 with the Big Dig. The facility being built is a small building that will enclose the judges’ platforms and will allow for the judges to have unimpeded views of the finish line in a comfortable setting.

In addition to the new facility, new plant growth, turf installation, and repairs to the waterfall will also be undertaken during the spring and summer months. The planting will be started as soon as weather allows, continue through the summer and finalized in 2015. The landscape design will mix functionality of stabilizing the island shores with aesthetically inviting areas for spectators and visitors.

Gawd, I hope that never happens --- that would be horrible. (Plus, a bridge and road 'n that would cost a LOT more than $100 million!)

Yes it is under construction behind Vic Square

It has been removed as an option in the new Transportation Master Plan

There's a new transportation master plan? are you referring to the OCP?
As much as the short-term me would like to see traffic from the east end neighborhoods improved, in the long term we are better off without a connector road from Assiniboine to 23rd going right through the park. Keep in mind that they could likely do the bridge / road for a lot less than $100m as they would probably make the road 90% land bridge and basically cut the lake in half. The lake (slough) isn't much now but it could be in the future - less so with a major connector going through it.

The pine island construction as stated above is for an enclosed finish line booth with video reply to monitor the finish line. My co-worker is an avid kayaker and said this will help Regina attract larger international rowing and kayaking events. She used a specific term but with the enclosed finish line, wascana lake will be only a handful of lake venues that allow for this type of competition in Canada she said.

And yes on another note that OCP was released. I'm proud to see the city's short term and long term bicycle plans. I still think interchanges need to be considered at smaller locations in the city. Also encouraging to see that they are attempting to plan for RT but as stated is out of the timeline in this plan. Un able to copy the images and post em

Yes, that's what the Wascana Centre CEO said, "One of the aspects that needed to be improved to get (Wascana) into being one of the top three venues (for rigattas) in Canada was to have an enclosed finishing line facility..."

Hey, I haven't logged into this forum in over 4 years, but thought I would share an exterior rendering of our building once renovations are complete:

Should see work starting next week!

Our building is right on the edge of the redevelopment. And it is in excellent shape, very well built in the mid-90s.

What the hell, why is Courtney not connected to Dewdney in this plan, is it that arrow.

Why is Fleet St not going over the tracks.

Finally some plans for rail bridges on the Ring Road. Possibly Winnipeg St bridge realignment too.

Do the Argyle St to Rochdale nowwwwwwwwwwwww! It is long overdue. Hate that intersection at Pasqua St and Rockdale. To many bottoming out the suspension on my truck going over that.

The Pasqua and 9Th Ave N interchange should have been do so long ago, how much longer will we have to wait. It has equal or more traffic then the Vic Ave interchange or the Highway 1 interchange. I drive it every day.

I don't think a interchange at Sask drive and Lewvan is needed. Kinda pointless to have and interchange on a road that is not set up to be a no intersection road. Even though it has 2 out of 3 interchanges already.

Twinning Winnipeg St in front of the Staples call center should be easy but now people can just maew done signs.

Courtney Will connect to Dewdney, at least to 1st soon.

Fleet street I don't think is a good idea. PoW is a much better option.

Argyle to Rochdale I would expect this summer.

Pasqua - 9th yup Needs to be done ASAP. a few years ago there were 50,000+ Vehicles a day I would expect it is A LOT higher now. Only to get worse with Coopertown.

An interchange at Sask and Lewvan is a good idea if they extend Sask Dr west to Pinky Road.
