Yeah, I have a separate card for day passes as well. Dumb that it has to be that way.

I lived in the down under Sydney and they had daily and weekly caps. As of 2024 you pay no more than $19.30 on Mondays to Thursdays, $9.65 Fridays to Sundays and public holidays, and $50 a week Monday to Sunday.

Driving past the site this morning and the second crane is already up - his prediction in the video was right
Also saw staging of a bunch of large steel beams, likely for the flyover.

There might be some scaffolding under the guideway where the first crosshead is being formed but it didn't look like there was any formwork so it might have just been there for support.

Has anyone ever seen those cylindrical steel connectors (?) on the top of the guideway columns next to the existing Skytrain line before? There are two in each column and they are parallel with the existing guideway alignment.

EDIT:

There doesn't seem to be much of a gap so maybe they'll be connected. Also it seems like the side of the existing pier caps facing the train tracks look like they've had something done to the face of them. They all have some marking/scarring on them that doesn't exist a year ago.

A couple plans from TransLink.

Route 49 Bus Priority
TransLink is working with the City of Vancouver to adjust bus stop locations and extend bus lanes along parts of this busy transit corridor to help more people get where they need to be, reliably and on time.

South of Fraser East Area Transport Plan
The South of Fraser East Area Transport Plan (ATP) will help shape the future of transit, cycling, walking, and goods movement within communities southeast of the Fraser River over the next 15 years.

49th needs to be widened. Not sure how a future BRT can work with a 4 lane street.

Large sections of 49th is currently bus priority for peak hours

Yup, scaffolding up along to the existing crosshead, it does look like they will effectively be extending the existing crosshead to the new column.

That column design with the large steel piece at the top is used for all the crosshead type pier caps.

There is no BRT proposed for 49th Ave. The future rapid transit line will be grade separated, most likely Skytrain.

Right. Upon further review, it was Rapid Bus that was proposed, but that got cancelled. I'm sticking with the "49th needs to be widened" mantra though. Though that might be physically impossible through some stretches.

The 41st/49th rapid rail transit would be extremely costly. I wonder if Musk's "The Boring Company" can actually build tunnels at 1/10 the cost. That would be a huge game changer for transportation infrastructure.

IDK how you can be a user since 2011 and yet have such consistently horrible takes that it makes me think you're a troll

It's been about a decade since that claim was made, pretty sure that's been proven to have been a false assumption.

Give me some examples so I can address them. I’m curious what is making you think I am a troll.

I certainly believe that robotics and automation will reduce the cost of tunneling, so that transit projects become more economically viable. Even if it's half the cost, that would be huge. Doesn't necessarily have to be a Musk company.

TBC's "cost savings" come from them skipping "unnecessary" features such as ventilation, fire exits, and other legally-required things to prevent a tunnel from being a deathtrap. Let Vegas and Nashville take the fall for the rest of the planet.

Not to mention tunnels that are barely large enough to squeeze a Tesla into...

As with Musk's hyperloop, he thinks he's discovered some amazing technology that everybody else doesn't understand. The reality is they are well understood, just not as easy as he thinks.

Is it? His strength appears to be making bold statements and promises that don't pan out.

I was posting about the Boring company and Hyperloops, which have both gone nowhere.
