Nice picture! Chase Utley was in the box with McCarthy and Kruk for an inning or so at yesterday's game. He was talking about how great it was/is to play here and gestured toward the skyline and said something like, "I mean, just look at that view!"

The Westin Philadelphia has completed its final phase of upgrades, bringing its multimillion-dollar renovation project...

Updates across the entirety of the Center City hotel began in 2019 and wrapped up in April. Over the four-year period — a timeline extended by the onset of Covid-19 — the Westin underwent an overhaul of its 294 guest rooms, public spaces, meeting rooms, and restaurant and bar.

1,000+ Beds for Two North Broad Projects Near Temple

We start along N. Broad St., where the Philadelphia Business Journal recently reported that Temple is leasing the properties at 1518-26 N. Broad St. to a private developer. While details are still scant, this will be a 900-bed project from an unknown developer, slated to be wrapped up by Fall 2026. The site today is a collection grassy lots just to the north of the glorious-but-vacant Burk Mansion, which is also owned by Temple, and an empty surface lot. These would be market rate apartments and not technically affiliated with the university. It’s also worth noting that there was a collection of one to four story buildings located here until about a decade ago, when they all met the wrecking ball. Needless to say, this project will represent a big step up in terms of density and utilization of well located real estate.

In equally exciting news, there is yet another proposal just a block to the north at 1406 Cecil B. Moore Ave., wedged in between the Shops at Avenue North to the east and The Edge student apartments to the west. This one is also a bit of a mystery, as the long, skinny property (also owned by Temple) is going to the ZBA this Wednesday, with plans to unify the property. If that doesn’t sound too exciting, this might: this would result in a 245-unit apartment with ground floor parking for 62 total spaces across the combined properties. Assuming even a paltry two beds per unit (Temple’s Morgan Hall across the street approaches four beds/unit, for context), this would add another 500 or so new residents to the middle of Temple’s campus.

Love the 15-story building at Temple! Nice height to add to that areas growing mini skyline.

That Temple building looks great!! Used to walk past that parking lot every day on the way to class and I couldn't be more glad it's getting covered up. Hopefully the other new Temple residential building on Broad will be even taller so the skyline will really stick out!

I also love the new highrise building behind the AMC theater! When I was a Temple student, I thought a parking lot was a criminal underuse of such a prime parcel. Although the highrise will be student housing, it could have easily worked as a hotel.

I hope that the former church at the SE corner of Broad and Jefferson, the large grassy parcels on the western side of the 1500 block of North Broad, the former Rite Aid at the SW corner of Broad and Oxford, the building Temple owns at the NW corner of Broad and Cecil B. Moore, the 7-Eleven at the SW corner of Broad and Diamond, and the Rite Aid on the SE corner of Broad and Suseuqhanna all get redeveloped into highrises in the coming years. The only thing that sucked about attending Temple was the dearth of retail amenities in the neighborhood. Thousands of new units and tens of thousands of square feet of new retail would help to solve that problem.

If I'm reading this correctly (recap of a Temple Trustees meeting from July 2022), the grass parcels on N Broad and the old Rite Aid property (which I think is 1528 North Broad) were combined and are being leased to Landmark Properties:

"The Temple University Board of Trustees authorized the university to proceed with combining Temple property from 1518 to 1526 North Broad Street with land owned by Goodman Properties at 1528 North Broad Street. The joint properties will then be leased to Landmark Properties to be developed into retail and student housing."

Love the temple project, I love watching that area grow up, slowly but surely.
The city needs some more skyscraper Forests, I think temple and to an extent u-city could definitely fill that void

That Temple project is probably the best and most thoughtful design I've seen come out of JKRP. Hopefully the execution is good, since I'm sure it'll look much more panel-y in real life, but the contrasting sections and massings look great. I would have liked all the gray to have been concrete panels instead of metal. Looking forward to it either way

It confuses me that the RCO is opposed to this. If you can cabin the gentrification to temple’s campus for a little while, isn’t that a win if your goal is keeping the neighborhood the same?

They're legitimately bad people. Sorry, not sorry. Oxford is in BAD shape once past 20th. Like piles of trash 10 feet high. You would think if this guy actually cared about the community, he would try to do something about since no one has ever? Teenagers deal drugs all around and the guy is like "nope developing that parking lot that even preserves the parking is the problem!" NIMBY privilege and entitlement makes even less sense in the hood.
