Sold
The CEGF building at Walker Dr and Garfield St has been sold to Kays Wholesale. A fair sized expansion from their present building.

I worked at CEGF for about a month in the early summer of 1976, just after my first year at UPEI. They needed temporary help loading french fried potatoes onto semis bound for Montreal to be used during the Olympic Games.

Those damned cartons of fries were really heavy. I've never worked so hard in my life!

Happily I got a job at the Experimental Farm for the rest of the summer. Much more relaxing.

City of Charlottetown Restructures Planning and Heritage Department

The city of Charlottetown restructured its Planning and Heritage Department to address recent staff changes as well as the increase in new building application volume, and more complex applications, and to improve application response time.

More can be read on the City of Charlottetown website.

I see there are renovations taking place at the old Sherwood Timber Mart on Mt Edward Rd.
Anyone know about who bought it and what it will be?

Trailside Apartments

I see there is a second foundation in place beside the nearly completed first apartment at Trailside apartments. The quite prominent apartment building on the side of the hill overlooking the bypass will soon have a twin.
Also, across the road there is a lot of earth work going on too.

Calvary Church 400 Unit Development

Update

There has been a delayed response from the city, not surprising, on the redevelopment of the Calvary Church and their 400 unit proposal. Apparently it was held up sittng on some administrators desk who is not there anymore. Say what!! A 400 unit development that would take a bite out of this cities rental vacancy issue sitting on some beaurocrats desk and going no place!!! GD they are so inept at city hall!!
So, the word according to the latest church release is that they have a confirmation from the city, they have an administrator looking at it, with BGI, the Toronto developer, making sure the paperwork is in order.
Better make this work and quick!! We need the housing!

I worked at BMR and now Sherwood Timbermart since the day I graduated high school wow almost 18 years now. The store was sold to Ed Clarke the former owner of Superior. I was told he bought Charlottetown Bottle and Metal and was turning the old store into a recycling plant. But I heard today it may just be turned into offices. That building was awfully old and the whole roof leaked. We continued to rent off Shaw the former owner of the property and current owner of Prebuilt. After 3 years we moved to sears since the rent was roughly the same with no leaking roof and the owners fix problems when they happen.

Charlottetown seeks funding for much-needed upgrades to Malpeque Rd

CBC NEWS PEI
by Emma Clow · CBC News
Posted: Jun 23, 2023 7:47 PM ADT

"Traffic upgrades take 'back seat' when it comes to federal funding"

"The city wants to see Malpeque Road widened to two lanes — both in and out of the city — potentially all the way to Winsloe.
It also wants to widen Capital Drive and connect that to Mount Edward Road."

MORE HERE from www.cbc.ca/peihttps://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/pei-malpeque-road-changes-needed-1.6887300

Opinion: You can upgrade and upgrade and upgrade all you want but it will still be the worst bypass/highway system in all of North America. Time to start from scratch!!!

I’d love to see a Route 2 bypass built from Winsloe north around the airport and connect back around marshfield. Make this a proper highway. They also need to make some proper interchanges on the current bypass.

Gemini Promotions (screen printing) is moving from Grant Street to this building, they’ll occupy a portion of the building, should be moving in there very soon.

St. Martha's Court

As you know, this project is well underway. The phase 1 first apartment nearing completion with the second one being built now. These were approved long ago and tonight there is a proposal before city council to remove the design review process for phase 2 & 3.
I wish they could be three or more floors to help improve density.

These images were on the city application.
All drawing images are from Open Practice Collaborative Architecture.

Seems like an awful lot of empty space between these buildings. Would have been nice to see this whole lot much more sense.

WOW!! That was quick!! I guess Charlottetown doesn’t have this problem. Yes, we have our NIMBYS but this is extreme. They didn't even have a chance to try the IRAC route!!
At least in Charlottetown, and this is what I'm hearing from the rhetoric online, that no matter what type of housing it is, medium level housing, apartments, affordables, etc. they are needed now. There are several large subdivisions, apartments, etc. that are being built now or on the plate.
If Summerside can't get it's ducks in order, move to Charlottetown.

Summersides on a self-destruction course at this point. Shame there's such a lack of innovation and change over there.
