WS originally announced YYZ-BON back in 2020 for a Feb 2021 launch, obviously sidelined by the pandemic.

This has to be mainline WS first non-Western Canada related route announcement in like year

Odd they would announce this separately from the winter schedule coming in a few weeks.

3H are going to need to have the runway at YPX paved for this to be realized to its full potential.
It was a matter of time, really. Those old 732s cant keep flying forever.

Perhaps they have a tour operator that is booking a large block of seats on the flight and their partner wanted to make it available for booking.

Would be good to see what is happening once they start to bring on line the Swoop replacement and any extra flights that Sunwing may need.

Pretty much exactly what i said yes! I agree.

EK starts YUL tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing the Emirates tail in Montreal in the mornings.

Loads on the inaugural look very good. The inbound is almost full, with a LF in the high 90s. The outbound back to DXB is in the low 90s. The next couple of days looks very good as well, with a LF in the 80s and 90s.

Not bad, considering the route was only announced 2 months ago.

Yeah that's a bit weird, but some of their other changes have been a bit weird too. I have no idea why YYC-LAX is still loaded as 3x daily next winter.

Those LF’s are encouraging. Hopefully the appropriate fares match too. Great to see them here. Maybe we’ll see an A380 here and there in the future. I saw this inaugural come in over the east end early in the morning. I read there was a Canadian copilot flying the plane too.

Isn't the idea that there is no Swoop replacement? Both Swoop and Sunwing are to be rolled into the Westjet brand.

There is no replacement for Swoop, both WO and WG are being brought into the WS mainline brand.

Maybe YYC-LAX is being kept 3x daily year-round? I was more surprised to see YYC-KOA get a full season extension before HNL. But maybe I'm just not that familiar with Hawaii demand.

2 Canadian pilots on the inaugural EK flight to YUL this morning. 340 passengers on board. That’s a 96% load factor.

Commanding the inaugural flight to Montréal was Captain Talal Al Hammadi (UAE National), Captain David Reny (Canadian), First Officer Omar Alhammadi (UAE National) and First Officer Veljko Veljovic (Canadian).
Emirates Chief Commercial Officer and two VP’s were on board the flight. Official pictures and videos with commentary from the VIPs at DXB, including the Canadian ambassador to the UAE, in the link below.

Yes, that is my understanding.

What is interesting to see if which flights WestJet introduces to replace the Swoop flying. For example, before Swoop there was a regular Saskatoon-Toronto flight. That was converted over to Swoop flight. I would expect a WestJet flight to replace the Swoop flight. Same thing for YYJ-Toronto.

On the Sunwing side, it is going to be some time until they get merged in. I would assume instead of brining in aircraft from Europe and pilots for Europe for the extra Sunwing flying they would be using more WestJet. Obviously at some point in the future all the Sunwing flying will move over to WestJet.

Considering the short lead up time to their first flight 96% is remarkable. Given how popular Emirates worldwide is I have high expectations this airline will funnel a lot of new traffic into Montreal. I’m curious how it will affect Qatar though, arguable an equal if not better carrier. Do you have any way to look into their loads for today or upcoming days? I’ll take note it is summer though, the winter is more telling.

No I don’t. My inside info for passenger loads is only with EK.

Considering how late EK announced YUL, I think QR’s loads this summer won’t be affected too much. As you say, W23 will be more interesting to watch.

It is. I think it's Kalitta Air. We have several cargo airlines flying into YQM using heavies (Kalitta, Atlas, China Southern and maybe one other). They mostly use 747-400s, but China Southern uses a Boeing 777. Most of this business is for the live lobster trade. The usual route is Moncton-Anchorage-various point in China.

Seeing the aircraft in the background, any idea how PAL is doing at YQM?
