The Adisoke spring email update noted the following:

Quote:
In the coming weeks, we will finish pouring the third level of the facility. By the end of summer / early fall, the remaining two floors will be poured, bringing us one step closer to opening day in 2026!

I've never understood how this project takes until 2026 to get to completion.

I dont think the 2026 is the completion date but rather the opening date. The building itself will be finish before that, but they'll have to move the books get the system running, train employees for the new facility, move the offices etc. that will bring us to a 2026 opening I believe.

Will be cool to see this thing topped out by the end of the year. Even if it'll be another 2+ years until opening, it'll have a big street presence and be a signal that the built up downtown area is slowly extending westward. Hopefully Dream breaks ground next door soon, and we get some news that the Sens are indeed going to the parcel west of Preston.

That's right. The logistics of moving takes up a lot of time as well.

The company I work for takes up one floor of a building downtown. We have about 100 employees. It will take an entire year+ just to design, build and set-up our move one floor down.

Exciting times for the city. Last time Downtown extended westward was in the mid-60s when Place de Ville was built. We're finally expanding further after over 50 years.

Because they have a lot to do internally, including security optimization and standardization... this isn't a random building with no requirements inside, this is an HQ for Archives and the central library which includes a preservation lab. The internal work alone is going to be a hurdle.

View from the end of the MUP by Pimisi. Interestingly you could bike to Albert St through a gravel pathway they had set up, although not sure how long that will last?

After a slow start, lots of great progress being made as of late. It's more evident how big the footprint of this will be. Awesome stuff.

Not a spectacular picture, but I thought it was neat that the new central library was visible from the Gatineau side of Zibi.

I didnt think it would

Yup. Despite all the criticism about the location, much of it reasonable, they did choose the one spot that allows the library to be part of the skyline, and views north towards the river and Gatineau Hills from the library. It's a spectacular location, for sure.

Looks like that's the last full concrete floor plate on the Albert side. Crazy to think we're still 3 years from opening!

Great shots as always Harley

This thing looks kinda huge from street level but maybe its just all the peri jacks I'm seeing.

Can't wait till they start stripping it to see its real form.

It's a beast of a building in an area that has been a deserted wasteland for years resulting in it looking huge I think.

Like all projects, this one is going to come down to its skin. Given the designs, I think it will be hard to screw up. At least not as bad as the Edmonton library....#neverforget :-)

Man, that's a big building! It's going to be one of the most unique structures in Ottawa, inside and out, and will be really something to see in person when it opens...
