Yes of course, the terminal is criminally bad inside.

I'm speaking specifically of the airside facilities, i.e. the number of parking positions for planes at the peak int'l hours.
Why do you work at a place you hate so much? There must be thousands of airports around the world who are run better, that would kill to have your world class expertise (ps you must be just a chipper person to work with)

He calls it how he sees it and works at the airport so he is more knowledgable than most of us on these forums. I respect ace.yyc's opinion even on the YEG thread. Maybe you're the type of person that wants to hear raindrops and lollipops answers. This is what the world is like these days. There's a generation of people that have been told "they can do anything they want" when in fact they can't because they're not smart or bright or maybe eager enough. Of course you can't say that these days without offending an entire generation. Maybe if you keep on saying that YYC's terminal is fabulous you hope that you'll convince people that it is. You won't. I think people are frustrated by the fact that YYC could have done a better job and they didn't and it will be almost impossible to make it better without major renovations. But this requires YYC to admit mistakes and I doubt they will do that.

YYC is really lucky that WS decided to double down on it instead of focusing elsewhere. Remember back in 2016 when WS was shifting capacity to the east? I can't believe that was 7 years ago now. Who knows what things will look like in 7 years.

After waiting over an hour for bags yesterday, I would like to put myself forward as being extremely negative towards YYC.

It is incomprehensible that it routinely takes that long to get checked baggage. I've been to Phoenix, Vegas, Seattle and San Fran in the past couple years and have never waited more than 15 minutes after getting to the carousel to collect bags.

Calgary it's at least 45 minutes, every single time.

Get it together already!!!

Curious if this red-eye goes well, perhaps they'll take a crack at a red-eye JFK.

Side note: Looking at perlim S24 schedules. Both Eurowings and Edelweiss have extended their respective seasons by 4 weeks, resuming service a month earlier. Obviously subject to change.

WS also shows YQM at daily. (Presently running 5-6x weekly this year).

Took WJ to PDX and both flights were nearly full on those 400s.

Interesting. So contrary to what some people believe it seems like Eurowings/Edelweiss are able to hold up against WS' massive expansion. Nice to see YYC looking like a fairly strong market

At least it's not a fundamental issue with the facility.

From my perspective, it was only really Edelweiss that were at risk - it's hard to hold onto service when it's only twice weekly, and their airplane is at a huge cost disadvantage vs all the Dreamliners.

PDX is strong but heavily seasonal relative to other transborder destinations, to the degree that they're cutting it this winter to return in the spring.
Yeah those A340's are not great economically...

5x weekly FRA from March 31 shows a lot of confidence from Eurowings even if this is just an early preliminary change.

That's good that it's not a design/infrastructure issue.

Would be nice to see the SLA to see if there are any performance standards in the contract.

Even if westjet had good ground crew, the baggage experience at YYC with WS will always be bad. The lack of a centralized baggage is a real pain when you have domestic flights arriving at the D gates and baggage collection at the A gates, it's a really long way for people and bags to go. Do they drive them over there? Or is it on a conveyor?

This is the same with the WS check in, over in the corner by the A gates, then a large empty space in the middle of the check in area till the AC counters. Obviously AC will never give its good real-estate up, but it doesnt help the passenger experience at yyc that your by far biggest tenant uses the outer edges of the terminal.

Sounds like they are still trying to recover. It was pure chaos in the international baggage hall earlier.

It is simply astounding how many power outages YYC has and how widespread the impact is given minimal business continuity plans. Do they win a gold medal or something for having the most power outages?

Does anyone know what's up with the UA cancellations today and yesterday? Was it the power outage?

WS has increased KOA to 2x weekly, and extended the season to resume 6 weeks earlier from Nov. 3 (previously was from Dec. 17)

HNL still remains from Dec. 2, but I suspect that too may get a full season extension as well.

Curious what potential new routes could be added.

Might be a stretch but I feel like MEX would be a good addition.

I could be wrong, but I think the government has limited all new additions to the new NLU airport, which isn't ideal. I don't foresee Mexico City in our future for now.

Otherwise, what other possible winter destinations that they don't already serve could they add? RTB? CCC? SNU? I can't imagine there's enough to demand to warrant additional stuff in Florida outside of MCO / FLL, but what do I know.

Maybe we will only see increases to exisiting destinations like:

-Red eye ATL continuing
-JFK back to pre-pandemic 5-6x weekly
-LIR going daily during peak periods?
-Additional VRA / PHX / CUN / PVR
-Perhaps peak period daily OGG / HNL again?

Curious if SEA maintains mainline through the winter, or goes back to the Q. It's been holding up well on the double daily 737s.

Speaking of Florida, Lynx is also adding MCO 2x weekly starting November 7.

This brings them this winter too:
-LAX 6x weekly
-LAS 4 weekly
-PHX 5x weekly
-MCO 2x weekly

PHX was previously removed, but re-appeared after AC bailed.

When will WestJet’s full winter 23/24 schedule (and any new destinations) be published?

MEX isn't taking on new cities. Won't be in the cards for a while (unless mexican government changes some policies).
