When Nordstrom is gone, I fear that "dead zone" you mention really sucking vital life from that area. And decaying tackier street scene conditions. I think 800 Granville should come onstream ASAP, dynamizing it.

Could be.
I was wondering that too, as there's a lack of Marshalls around.

How much longer can Winners and Marshalls continue as separate operations? By now, you'd think that TJX would have merged them, a la Best Buy and Future Shop did years ago.

They used to have different owners years ago, Marshalls was always nicer than TJ Maxx, they had a much better shoe department and the stores were cleaner. They have maintained the cleaner better-organized look with the Marshalls stores, but the shoe section isn't the same as it used to be.

I suppose people are loyal to names and I do know a few people who have said oh let's go to Marshalls we don't have one in my town, yet they have winners lol.

The shoe dept used to look like this, a display shoe with all the available sizes in boxes below, but now they are just on racks. Much easier to find a size when it was done this way.

That's what I remember!

Marshalls also has the signs in the changerooms for each hook saying Yes, No, Maybe.

The company is considering smaller kiosk locations in high traffic areas such as around transit and office buildings of about 500 square feet. The strike zone for a typical location is between 900 and 1,600 square feet with a big patio component.
Has a replacement tenant for Blenz at Commercial-Broadway been announced yet? Seems like the kind of space Artigiano is coveting, if this article is any indication. Smaller footprint, transit-adjacent, high-traffic area. I guess the only concern for them might be the demographics.

I'm just not sure what type of tenant TL wants in their developments if it's not a coffee shop, smoothie joint, donair shop or A&W -- and the latter three are already in place there.

I wouldn't be surprised if this location closes, as there's a newer store on Granville near Moore's.

Numerous set fires in the Downtown Eastside yesterday, including several garbage cans and dumpsters.
This fire on the 600 BLK of Seymour Street was also intentionally set.
@VancouverPD investigating.

It's not a great place for them anyway, and I hadn't realised that all the stores are corporate. There's no sign (yet) of Holborn actually doing anything with the Bay Parkade site, and they'll struggle to make anything work at the moment, with a rising interest rate, increasing office vacancy and limited residential potential.

(I expect someone will suggest it should just be a huge mall, but strangely, in the 17 years since they bought the site, they haven't pursued that idea.)

Not for several years. They developed a few suburban housing projects, and some in Squamish, but they have only developed the non-market buildings at Little Mountain, and have had a permit to build rental on 95 W Hastings for years.

Could they be just waiting to sell off the land once it reaches the desired ROI? The market has been hot enough in the time that they have owned most of these properties to justify building, seems odd that nothing is happening.

Getting something going on Seymore with that big piece of land could totally help in bring that area back to life.

But they were advancing some preliminary plans to develop the site so it's hard to say it's a totally dead project except for the fact Little Mountain is probably the short term priority. And like previously mentioned the economic conditions probably will delay anything happening for a few years.

I went in there on the weekend - sad. It has to be tough on the remaining employees, hopefully they're getting some sort of bonus to stay.

When I was in Simons a couple weeks ago they still didn't have the depth of the merchandise they had pre-Covid. Lots of sparse racks, I'm not sure they could fill a space as large as Nordtroms.

Both Simons and Sporting Life have either lost brands or dropped them. Both had Canada Goose, and Sporting Life even had a dedicated area for them, but they have both stopped carrying or lost the right to carry the brand.

That Nordstrom Space is way too big for Simons, perhaps they could fill two of the floors.

I read the comments on an article posted I think by Dailyhive and most people seemed to want Eataly, IKEA or Simons.

I don't know how big a space Eataly would need, one floor?
