I suppose. I DGAF about these carriers - we need to keep AC's FRA and LHR. Leisure carriers are not comfortable ways to cross the Atlantic.

If AC is withdrawing from YYC and declining to compete with WS, perhaps the Federal Government should be looking at open skies arrangements with Europe and the US? Who wants to live with a colluding duopoly.

On a personal note- I wish Westjet would offer a business visa card, Aeroplan is making less and less sense for YYC based business.

We already have open skies agreements with Europe and the US.

Any European carrier is allowed to operate between Calgary (or any other city with customs) and any point in Europe. Any US carrier is allowed the same between Canada and the US.

Between Flair, Porter, and a host of others there is no shortage of domestic airlines that are free to operate in Canada.

Open skies with EU has about 20 years old. Never had issues with the US terms of open skis.

Wow I was looking at the ticket prices on YYC-NRT and WS must be doing incredibly well with that route. They could certainly use an extra frame to make NRT/EDI/BCN follow the 5x weekly schedule that DUB/FCO have.

They haven't started their season yet but does anyone know how Edelweiss is generally doing?

The WS card is useful for YYC Priority if you need it, and the companion fare. But it's not worth spending any money on it, there's lots of choices for cards that reward generic travel spend at higher rates that would actually count as part of qualifying spend, unlike WSD.

I really hope WS hangs on to this route! I’ve been longing for a Washington route from YYC for ages and I’m glad to finally have a chance to use it!

WS is about 80-85% for it’s inaugural IAD.

When I checked yesterday there was like 20ish open seats on the outbound and 15 or so on the inbound. (About the same as last weeks DTW launch).

Instead WestJets will push on time and immediately become delayed in the WestJet app because they're not blocked long enough.

For IAD, UA is blocked longer by only 7 minutes... but operationally they're just far more competent in general.

I was on a WS flight yesterday out of YOW. The boarding time printed on the boarding pass was 4 minutes before flightaware was showing the on time inbound flight landing.

So, yes there is something wrong with their scheduling algorithm.

I think WS schedules 45 minute turns some places, so even if the flight is on time it would only park 5 minutes before that boarding time. I believe the dash 8 does 30 minute turns, but can't recall the boarding time printed for those, might be 40 minutes also?

Thursday, WS 613 boarding pass says boarding starts at 7:15 PM. Inbound aircraft arrived "on time" at the gate and passenger start to get off around 7:20 PM. Clearly we are not going to start to board until clear the aircraft of passengers from the previous flight. I don't remember when we started to board but it was after they unloaded the passengers coming in.

We did get into Calgary close to on-time give a minute or two.

Did make my connection to Victoria without a problem. Did involve a complete end-to-end journey on the weird express buggy service from an A gate to a D gate. It may look weird, but glad they did build that deluxe golf cart service out.

I know a couple people who took the route and said there was 30/40 people on the flights they were on.

Air canada Putting YYC-YWG back to mainline end of October.
But two dailies are gone for the single mainline. No more morning flight on AC, just the evening one.
Terrible for business travellers.

I believe Westjet is the only carrier left on that route? I wonder if the prices will increase now that it’s got a monopoly on the route! Also wonder if/when it will follow suit and pull the plug on it or stick it out!
