Looks like starting from today, TS will codeshare with PD on YVR-YYZ. Now you can book flight to Europe from YVR with either PD or TS.

I guess soon we won't see TS tail at YVR at all, since there's no point for them to operate here when PD offers multiple daily frequency. I now fully expect PD to start YVR-YUL once TS end the route at the end of October. It'll probably be one of their first route when PD opens the Montreal base.

So hoping to come back to Vancouver this August but flight prices I have seen so far between Vancouver and Japan are ridiculous, especially since Japan is essentially open again.

I don't feel like paying 3000 bucks for a shit flight with layovers.

Does anyone on here have any recommendations for any sites / tricks I can use to get at least a sane ticket price?

For fun I checked tickets between Japan to Australia, and of course they are about half as expensive. Why does everything to do with Canada recently have to suck and be overpriced?

Not nearly enough capacity for TPAC flights this summer, and it's kind of late for August flight tbh... Maybe ZIP Air to LAX/SFO and Flair to YVR on separate tickets, and wish both flights will operate with no missed connection? That will get you down to $1500, with very very big risk of course.

Was also looking at Seattle. Its better than YVR by about 400 to 500 dollars, but that has its own troubles too.

Anything over 2000 is a gouge IMO.

Well, I remember seeing non-stop for around $1600 for summer, but you have to book it way before your trip... like, maybe 6-8 months before. Now pretty much all the seats are filled and now the cheap tickets are long gone. It's worse when non-stop flights between Canada/US and China are still very restricted, so most Asia flights from North America are filled with Chinese who will have to connect to visit China.

Its just infuriating seeing prices drop for Australia, the Philippines, but not Canada.

I wanted to book a long time ago, the problem was I didn’t know if it was going to be just myself, myself and my son, or myself and the whole family (4). This was dependent on a potential video contract I was in potential of getting. If I got it and it was a big project, whole family would come, if it was a reduced in scope project, my son and I, nothing, just me for a visit. Of course it always takes these assholes forever to decide something. Finally heard it likely won’t happen, so now can finally try and find a ticket just for myself.

Honestly, just one of those days where it feels like the whole world is trying to fuck you.

I feel you. Most of the time I finished all my work months before, and people will always take their time leave it till 2 days before the deadline or before my vacation to provide feedback...

But anyways, your best bet for cheap ticket now is probably to take the ULCC (like Air Premia or ZIP Air) across the Pacific to LAX/SFO, then find your way to YVR some how. If there's still seat available that is. I wish they will operate to YVR to lower the ticket price... maybe one day they will? I guess we don't have the population compared to those US cities...

But yeah, ULCC come with high risk of delay and cancellations...

Russian airspace closure impacting both Canadian and Japanese airlines on that route, perhaps? I did make the same comment on previous page about flight prices being out of whack right now. Combined with inflation, many people just cannot afford to fly which is cutting demand.

I would keep an eye on yvrdeals.ca. Deals to Japan have been pretty common there.

You do realize its peak travel season to/from Canada, and quite the opposite from Australia. So there's that.

Nothing is set in stone until the first flight touches down at the destination for the first time.

I could see the restriction of airspace adding a slight increase in cost, but nothing like double to triple traditional costs that are seen now...

Fun facts

AC’s YVR transborder operation for the winter lists SMF as the only remaining CR9 route.
All other CR9s have been replaced by 7M8s.
Some decent capacity increases on a few routes.

And Westjet will be flying 6 daily from YVR-Hawaii during the Xmas peak
2 daily each to HNL and OGG and 1 daily each to LIH and KOA

The removal of pretty much all the CRJ-900s from YVR (and YYC) is a clear sign that Jazz is having problems meeting its obligations towards AC. The recent AC-PAL bridge agreement is another sign of that.

Jazz was supposed to have regional exclusivity under the AC Express banner for 70+ seaters until 2025. That is clearly no longer the case. With PAL eventually taking over some routes in the maritimes, plus the reshuffle of all CRJ900s out east, that should ensure AC can grow regional flying from YYZ/YUL in the short/medium term.

Once more A220s start coming in, YVR will eventually see them, as the 737 might be a bit too big for some of the regional US routes from YVR.
