These are huge cuts at YYC by AC - nothing stagnant at all.
I also don’t think Porter’s new flights to YYZ are relevant here.
Also, Lynx and Flair are still trying to figure out what they’re going to do.

It’s all about Westjet at YYC these days.

Looks like AC transborder keeping one daily LAX (7M8), one daily EWR (223) and twice weekly HNL (7M8) this winter.
Also CUN looks like the only AC sun route as well.

DTW starts this afternoon. First outbound is about 83% sold.

Could DTW go year round? Although I'd assume WS would rather up YYC-ATL next winter?

If AC cuts their FRA and LHR routes one has think at what point does WS consider taking on more 787s to fill that hole, FRA especially would be a big loss but I don’t see us losing it for the time being.

Both FRA and LHR are probably much more lucrative than any experimental route the 787s would be used on at YVR/YUL/YYZ IMO

FRA is not O&D. FRA exists because of a JV between AC and LH, and FRA is their biggest hub. WS would not take up that route. Most pax, I would guess, connect in FRA elsewhere in Europe.

It's the same reason we have EWR - mostly JV traffic with United.

I can't see DTW going year round either. Why hit a NE US airport in winter when you could connect in ATL? I would expect they'd keep a 2nd ATL flight over DTW. WS is, as it is, highly seasonal at YYC.

BNA will probably go year round 2x weekly I'd assume? The night flight to ATL going year round does sound more realistic than DTW going year round.

Even if subsidised though YWG-ATL 5x weekly seems quite ambitious to say the least.

FRA is massive connection point to India as well for Calgary. And a fair amount to Pakistan through other hubs as a 2 stop.

Some days the flight is 30-40% connection to the Indian sub continent.

Highly doubt it unless there's something that's somehow more profitable than YYC-FRA that AC could put the frame on.

For sure. The only routes I can see staying are FRA/LHR/EWR and of course YYZ/YUL/YVR but practically anything else that's still running is at risk of being chopped.

Taking a quick look it looks like AC will have max 33 flights a day to YYC next winter if HNL/LAX stick.

I manually remove all overcounts for YVR/YYC/YOW, likely there are some over count from YYZ and YUL due to equipment change but not yet removed in the schedule.

Before COVID, YYC is normally about half of YVR/YUL and 1.5x of YOW/YHZ.
