Full gut job renovation is the only way if you want to command the overpriced rates that Vancouver tends to have although they would most likely sign a sweetheart deal securing months of solid bookings for cruise ship season.

Hopefully a proper hotel chain is named (is it still Ritz Carlton the leading rumour?) after the massive let down of the Paradox and it's choice to be turned into an extension of the Granville strip.

They said the brand would be unique to Vancouver & Canada so seems doubtful it will be the Ritz.

Yeah, the open concept experiment was massive failure for a law firm.
They have conventional offices in the TD Tower (former EY space).

Is there any updated timelines for completion of the hotel project or is it on hold indefinitely?

With Nordstrom pending closure, that is two pretty big holes in CF Pacific Centre as I would assume any new tenant/s would take several years to complete upgrades etc to the Nordstrom space.

Was there confirmation that the project is on hold?

I think everyone knows by know it was going to be a multi-year renovation project.

It's always amussing that after a company spends millions on "renovations" the new tenant needs to renovate that space

I guess if Samsung took over the Apple store, they would need to spend millions on upgrades as well.

Yeah, for alignment with their corporate image.
If a mom and pop operation took over a restaurant, they'd probably
re-open largely as-is.

Silly me, I should have known that everyone is aware of every retailer's different "corporate image"
When you walk into a car dealership you know the exact brand without even looking at the cars ... said no one ever

although.... if you've ever walked into a VONS in the US (California) you definitely get pre-Sobeys Safeway vibes (previously same ownership)
and they may have your Canadian phone number on file for club pricing.

could Nordstorm let all its Canadian stores close and than open a new Vancouver store tied into the Seattle/USA stores, other companies have operated that way, such as Krispy Kreme in BC is owned by the franchisee out of Washington State. It was one of their stores with the highest sales.

I was at the sale last week and beauty was at 25% off and compared to when it was only 10% off a lot of it was completely gone, not much selection left, some of the $600 candles and $400 fragrances are still left, but all the Aesop and Kiehls were all gone.

I actually have a US Safeway card, works great, similar to the Save-On-Foods More Rewards card here.

Wow, I thought there was already an operator for that hotel. Given that council had a minor tizzy recently over our shortage of hotel rooms you’d think operators would be clamouring to get in.

Who knows maybe they already have someone and aren't revealing it yet?

For what it's worth the development permit is still not issued if shapeyourcity is up to date but obviously this isn't just some small renovation.

With the statement of unique to Vancouver and Canada - could it be Mandarin Oriental? Seems logical but we seem to have a tough time bringing in non Canadian based luxury/premium hotel chains (Fairmont seems to be the main one - after the exit of Four Seasons)

Lotte from Korea is looking to expand globally, they will be opening a second hotel in Chicago in late 2023. Maybe them? they had their first US location in Seayyle.
