I drove by and noticed some new signage on the fence that looked like advertising for a new development on this site! I may be mistaken, though. Anyone have any updates on this one?

^Good catch.

The development is called;

NAVY LANE CONDOS

Website is minimal but it looks like a seven storey building along Gottingen with ground floor commercial and rooftop amenity space including a pool.

I never noticed the lane, but it shows up on Google Maps and there's a narrow asphalt path that runs from Gottingen to Maitland.

The architecture on this one looks well above average.

Definitely an interesting design on this. Urban Capital is quickly becoming one of my favourite developers.

Yeah, this looks promising. Wish the website showed the Gottingen elevation, but very optimistic.

One of the things I like about them is that David Wex (one of the founders) is known to put a lot of stock in the renderings. My understanding from colleagues who have done work with him is that he views the renderings as a sales promise, so ultimately you can expect the final building (and even landscaping) to look almost identical to the renderings.

Was trying to determine what frontage this is, and I'm guessing this is Maitland Street, with the lane itself running along the left side. It's a little confusing since the red houses on the left don't actually face the direction depicted here, nor does the building on the right (this rendering has those buildings' Maitland-facing sides instead facing into the interior of the block, toward the new building). Anyway, looks good, and I admit that if they're holding back the Gottingen-facing facade to build anticipation, it's working on me. Definitely want to see what that looks like.

Hopefully this and Ocean Vista will be constructed roughly concurrently, to minimize disruption on the block. (Excavation for the latter is well underway, it looks like.)

My impression was also that this is Maitland Street and they're embellishing the "lane" here a bit. It also seems to suggest that the building will be L-shaped and take up the entirety of the parking along Maitland.

It's pretty impressive to look at the Google Maps 3D view around here that dates to 2017 or so and count all of the parking lots that are now gone. Also noticed the old Menz Bar that was something else for a while is Indulge now. Is the old Company House spot empty? The architect office there is now one of the not so great looking parts of the street.

MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple quietly sold their building back in 2021. I think they're still working out of there for the time being but will eventually move. The buyer group owns the Company House building, as well as the building to the south (two PIDs). It's about 62 metres of street frontage, so that will be a very substantial redevelopment when it comes around.

Agreed! It's so rare these days to see a new design that's not covered greyscale paneling.

I think MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple is now in Queen's Marque.

Building looks great, but those are some uncanny-valley humans in that video. Also: interesting that they still haven’t produced a Gottingen-facing rendering.

The AI renders do have a bit to go for the humans, but damn they've come a long way for showcasing developments.

The added bonus of cheaping out and not finishing the units is you get to see the shoddy mechanical installation. Halifax Central Library made a huge mistake by going with exposed concrete columns. I know it was a cost issue but now we are stuck with the cheapness. Hard to promote the grandeur with that look.

For the library I don't think it was a cost issue, as they had a seemingly unlimited budget for that Scandinavian Designer Library and used every bit of it. I think they did that on purpose, just like the surplus of stairs.
