The Whiteshell section of the TCH is in Manitoba; not Ontario.

Strictly speaking - NO as the TCH-1 designation through Winnipeg is on surface streets; as well as the stretch in Headingley (immediately west of Winnipeg) is a four-lane undivided arterial road with stop lights and commercial driveways. Here's an example:

For MB, I include the TCH 100 into the mix, which is divided, but has lights.

338km is under provincial jurisdiction, 121km of that is already four lanes.

Geotechnical challenges are probably at play though. In B.C. it’s the formidable Rocky Mountains. On Newfoundland it’s the mostly eroded, tame Appalachian hills.

From what I remember, it’s 1482 KM of just Highway 17 (with no plans for twinning whatsoever).

No. This is basically the distance of one of the routes. You want both twinned? That is likely around 3000km

Interestingly, BC also has Highway 16 which is a TCH that isn't twinned. AFAIK, the rest of 16 is twinned in other provinces.

Hwy 16 isn't twinned between Saskatoon and the Hwy 1 junction in Manitoba. Saskatchewan Hwy 11, which is mostly twinned, except through Chamberlain, is sort of the defacto route of the northern branch of the TCH.

I mean, the 4 lanes of Yellowhead Highway extend a bit east of Saskatoon to the bedroom community of Clavet (actually a bit east of Clavet, completed as recently as 2016), but that’s about it.

Ps: Yellowhead Highway’s substandard compared to TCH. For example, what kind of bypass is Yellowhead Highway around North Battleford? It’s like Lougheed Highway Haney Bypass in B.C.
