Black Star, I've reviewed your posts (ALL) and 95% are just repeating misinformation you heard about politics in Alberta, aka UCP god like, NDP bad.

For all the engineers out there how is this repair approved for structural worthiness? My concern would be after a few years additional work will need to be done as this is a patch job compared to a job done properly the first time.

Its epoxy injection for hairline cracks.

Remember, Transed owns and operates this for 25 years. They are liable to themselves for long term performance of the entire system.

Sure, but the risk for catastrophic failures would obviously involve many parties and cause significant impact to the public good.

That this 'public infrastructure' project is still not open largely because of their own issues and that 'WE' are now negatively impacted is really unacceptable, but a rock and a hard place.

What risk of catastrophic failure, can you define what you see here? From what I see, the whole point of the through testing and then subsequent repairs to most obviously address that and to ensure long term suitability of the infrastructure? Is there a corner being cut here somewhere that I am missing? I mean at this point failure, to address every aspect of such public issues would almost certainly be deemed as negligent and probably criminally liable, not just a civil or financial penalty if something catastrophic happened.

What's the larger negative impact to the public other than not having something we didn't have before? People want to blame the delivery model, but the delivery model is actually the thing doing the most to insulate the public from harm, both physically and financially.

Referring to the previous comments around ongoing O&M over the next 25/30 years. Obviously they are taking their time to review, identify and reasonably address any issues, but failures can and will occur with infrastructure projects.

Expectation, business planning, investments (large and small) and relocations (business and residential in nature) based on information they had before them.

What a waste of time and resources for the most part. Put in fare gates and call it a day.

---
Transit peace officers have given out many more tickets and warnings for fare evasion in the first few months of 2023 compared to the previous four years, especially on the LRT system. Between January and March of this year, officers handed out 157 tickets and 2,798 warnings, compared to 17 and 92 during the same period in 2019. Steve Bradshaw, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 569, told CBC the drastic increase is part of a deliberate effort by the city to address safety and social disorder. Nearly 60% of tickets went to people who are homeless or who provided no fixed address. Coun. Ashley Salvador said fining homeless people for fare evasion is “absolutely concerning” and intends to question administration about the issue in mid-May. Erick Ambtman, executive director of EndPovertyEdmonton and chair of the Edmonton Police Commission, said people who don’t appear in court to pay a ticket can be subject to a warrant, which can lead to an arrest the next time they interact with police. “It ties up that officer’s time. It ties up the justice system’s time,” said Ambtman.

I'd love to see the cost for installing gates at all the stations, considering they were all designed with the 'proof of payment' system in place already. The at-grade LRT stations would be more difficult to install them in compared to the underground stations, for instance.

Indeed, but possible and/or simple where you can to make it hard to return or move in between areas.

....
Launched the Bystander Awareness campaign to help reduce gender-based violence and harassment in transit spaces.....
Edmonton Insight Community is conducting a survey on the city's attempt to bring bystanders into active enforcement. Here's the blurb on the city's site: https://www.edmonton.ca/ets/one-strong-voice

Among other things they recommend bystanders take out their phones and begin recording incidents they judge to be "harassment". I suggested that the people behind the programme take transit more often. A lot of what they recommend risks placing well-intentioned commuters in serious danger.

The campaign is light on enforcement and security and heavy on individual responsibility for identifying threats. Transit vehicle operators are protected by locks and transparent shields. Maybe they need to install similar safety equipment for passengers.

So, any guesses on when Valley Line will actually be available to use? Earlier this year I was guessing mid-June. Starting to think that was wishful thinking.

I was thinking after the schools are out so maybe July 1st? They sure have been doing alot of testing but no update from transed for the last 3 weeks. This after doing an update every week for awhile. Supposedly 98% complete based on the 1st quarter 2023 update so that was 2 months ago. TransED is consistently inconsistent with their updates.

I'd say Aug 1 or Sept 1 at this point.

They would want to provide a minimum of 30-60 days notice I would hope.
