I think they have been set up to fail, and progressives when talking about crime and police are as irrational and self-destructive as Republicans talking about their 🞵🞵🞵🞵.
For example, South Chicago just had a heinous double murder the other day. The culprit was a convicted murderer out on electronic monitoring for another illegal 🞵🞵🞵 violation. And to nobody’s surprise he murdered his ex and her boyfriend and probably would have killed her children.
That’s not an exception. It’s common. Almost every person arrested for murder has a lengthy violent felony record.
Then, the city’s prosecutors often let crimes like theft, assault and even carjacking go unpunished until they inevitably escalate. Whether murder or rioting.
Meanwhile CPD objectively has had lower staffing since 2019, has objectively had to work double shifts and other overtime, and objectively had scheduled days off. No extra hiring to cover CTA stations and deter rioters.
Yet the police are all bad. Everything is their fault. The courts and prosecutors and politicians deserve no blame whatsoever. Root causes.
