So far the best build in the area. Cool, chic, and modern. It doesn't have to be built complicated to look good.

In Ottawa this is a standout tower as far as I'm concerned. It wouldn't be in any other city of over a million in Canada. For us it stands out simply because it breaks the mould.

The modern era started with East Market Lofts, Métropole and The Laurier, and just went down from there in my opinion. I think Soho Italia is actually RLA's best work since The Laurier actually

Though not as tall, I would include 700 Sussex in that pile. Still one of my favourite modern buildings in Ottawa.

I wasn't a fan at the time, but I've grown to appreciate it. Simple and elegant design that doesn't compete with the Château Laurier, quality materials, active frontage and an elevator between Mackenzie Avenue and Sussex. Overall a great addition to the area.

Not only does it not compete with the Chateau Laurier, but it nods to it with both having a restaurant tucked into the front corner. 700 Sussex also continues the horizontal lines of the Connaught building. Very nice.

That would have been in the mid 90s. I believe that the aquarium was supposed to be underground with a hotel and shops on top.

But the actual idea of an aquarium for Ottawa goes even further back. I had a high school friend back in the early 80s whose dad was a lawyer for a group that was pushing for an aquarium on Lebreton Flats.
