How has CDG and AMS worked for WestJet? Do they have interline agreements with AF/KLM at both for ongoing pax?

It seems crazy that they can make AMS successful when KLM is running a daily A333 or 789, but hey - all the best if they can make it work!

I think both AMS and CDG have codeshares with KLM/AF. It seems like both are doing pretty well loads wise, even with KL on the route surprisingly.

I don't think AMS will come back though

Well it seems there’s no spare aircraft (WS) to fly to AMS in the summer but if NRT is only summer seasonal then maybe AMS will return next winter? Unless WS changes their mind and takes the other 3 aircraft that were in the original order?

They have no summer slot for AMS anyway, even if they had a frame for it which they don't.

Winter loads have been strong for AMS.

Jan and Feb are the 2 worse months for TATL demand. After the holidays, demand to Europe falls off a cliff until around March. So it’s normal that WS doesn’t even want to bother with service to CDG during that time. With only 7 Dreamliners, they need to use them wisely to extract as much yield out of them as possible, especially in winter.

I took KLM to AMS last month and the plane was completely full. Don't know how the loads to AMS are for WestJet, but IMO Westjet would be better to leave AMS and focus on LHR, CDG, FCO, and BCN.

Anyone know why runway 17L/35R was closed Sunday night? It didn't appear to be a planned closure as there was nothing mentioned in the NOTAMs earlier in the evening but lots of equipment appeared to be out there working away including someone with a RED 5 call sign.

That's exactly what they do. AMS will not fly in summer. BCN/FCO wouldn't work in the winter anyway.

Even if NRT gets extended through the winter, there's still enough slack to fly AMS too.

So far they only have:
CUN/PVR/LHR/YYZ - Daily
OGG 3-5x weekly
CDG 3x weekly (until end of Dec).

YYC-HNL, YVR-PVR and YYZ-CUN are presently not showing a 787 for next winter.

Yep. KLM Amsterdam AMS - Calgary YYC - AMS route is now on a mix of Boeing 777-200/ 787 again for the Spring/ Summer 2023 season.

1st one for S23 on Sunday March 26 was operated by the KLM Boeing 777 from AMS to YYC was diverted back to AMS airport due to a unruly passenger near Iceland & KL677/678 were both 6hours late due to it.

My niece just took a flight to Amsterdam for $259 one way. With deals like that, no wonder the loads are good.

WS S23 Transborder changes: (Applies to at least June)

LAX - Increased to up to 23x weekly (4 flights on Sat and some Thu)
PHX - Increased to 16x weekly (3 flights on Thu / Sat)
SFO - 3rd flight starts a few weeks earlier now
BNA - Increased to 5x weekly

If you factor in SNA, WS now has 5 scheduled departures to the LA area on Saturdays.

More WS changes:

YQM has been increased to 5x weekly, and its run extended to Oct. 26 (previously ended early Sept).

---

Happy April! 4 long haul routes resume this month, and 1 new one starts, with our first flight to Asia since October 2019.

Lots of gradual increases being made I’m assuming because these flights are doing better?

That, and just... defense of territory. For example from what I have seen there is absolutey no reason for the most recent LAX bump in seat capacity, aside from holding strong against the new entrant with a red tail.

Best of luck to Lynx but WS has YYC cornered. Their new strategy is really starting to show, imagine someone telling you pre pandemic that YYC-LAX would be up to 4x daily not including SNA in a few years time...nuts. At least Lynx isn't expanding too fast.

I'm curious to see. The only way for me to see their loads would to be walk over there and watch them board. I'll have to do it sometime.
