There's that wide platform just begging to be integrated into a development, escalators going south into the development would make a lot of sense here.

Yeah, escalators immediately leading down into the new development make sense.
In the TAB side the level ramp heads into the hill, so that was feasible.
On the south side, you'd need to drop down pretty quickly.

So they're cladding all the concrete in wood panels eh

That's a very unfortunate render angle that gave the illusion of concealing the curved platform facade when in fact it's quite separate

From the rendering I see the new entrance as stairs and elevator only no escalators. A, I missing something.

There are no escalators on the section of which I took photos. I have no idea where those will be at...

The two new escalators are from the mezzanine (ticketing) level to the platforms.

From the renders it looks like the new escalators will be in place of the current staircases, beside the current escalators, and replacement staircases are installed beside the existing elevators.

Yeah, no escalators to ground on the south side
(until the Carter dealership is redeveloped and it can be integrated).
Handicapped access is via elevator.
I guess it doesn't make sense to negotiate and pay for a statutory right-of-way over Carter lands to construct an escalator system that either doesn't tie in to future development or would have to be demolished in the near term.

I've marked out in red the mezzanine extension and the new escalators on a pic from the Perkins Will website.
Note the VVVV shaped supports for the mezzanine extension in the rendering above.

https://perkinswill.com/project/brentwood-station/

New escalators will probably emerge around the areas with the darker tile.
Seems too narrow for both a stair and an escalator, so probably only an escalator.

^Ahh, yes you're right. That's a relatively massive mezzanine expansion.

22nd Street and Gateway renovation planning work is starting. The immediate areas around both stations will see new high density development in the coming years.

Quote:
22nd Street & Gateway Stations Feasibility Study

TransLink Facility Design (TLFD) seeks to address the Stations’ functional deficiencies in a way that is also responsive to the evolving needs of the cities in which they are located, and opportunities presented by future development in the neighbourhoods they serve. This is intended to be done through a complete station upgrade project for each of the two stations being assessed as part of this feasibility study;

As the first step in the upgrade project ... conduct a Feasibility Study analyzing two concept upgrade approaches and their component parts for each station (Gateway and 22nd Street).

With the rate New West is progressing with their Connaught Heights plan they've definitely got plenty of time to develop this study.

Has there been an RFP for a Columbia station redevelopment study? That's much more needed than a 22nd Street one considering there's actually development in the area (along with the associated transfer issues).

Yes, there was a RFP in 2021 for a Columbia station study. Translink selected Perkins & Will (who designed Brentwood and the Evergreen Extension stations). Translink bought the Boucher Centre (commercial building with the Columbia St station access) so this could potentially be a very big project. I haven't heard anything since.

There was a feasibility study for Stadium-Chinatown last year for three options. Translink is currently working on selecting the prefered design according to the 2023 Business Plan. Unless I'm forgetting something Stadium looks to be the next to happen following Brentwood.

Regarding the 22nd St Station area plan, yes it has been thrown on the back burner for quite some time but the city seems to actually be doing something now. RFP issued a year ago finally closed for "managing an ideas competition"

Thanks for that appreciate your responses! I remember they had purchased the Boucher Centre but was unaware they had selected a firm out of the RFP, wonder when the public will get to see some plans.

As far as the 22nd St Station is concerned I think I was still searching for the "connaught heights plan new westminster" and only found this which is an outdated page, I followed a link from the page you posted and there is another page with updated information under the 22nd Street Station name instead of Connaught Heights. There's a January 2023 update posted:

BOLD VISION UPDATE - JANUARY 2023

The Bold Vision planning process was put on hold in 2020, to focus resources on response and recovery efforts related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City had planned to relaunch the planning process in 2022, but backlog of work coming out of the pandemic and significant staffing shortages have delayed the restart.

A Request for Proposals process yielded a high degree of interest from consulting teams to support the engagement and planning process, and the City will work with one of these teams when the process is relaunched.
There's no timeline listed for the work to restart so I imagine this process will continue to drag on.

I think something is actually happening this time. I believe the RFP was still pending last time I scanned through the list.

I guess that may include a walkway extension over Expo Blvd?

Is there enough space for that to fit while maintaining the existing station house? Anyway Expo Blvd will be a minor street whenever the viaduct removal realignment happens.

Maybe they'll add regular access to the 3rd platform. During events have Surrey bound trains use one platform and Burnaby bound use another.

From the NEFC plan

Quote:
Establish a pedestrian walkway between the Dunsmuir
Connection and the Chinatown-Stadium SkyTrain Station that
allows seamless access to and from the connection, as well as to
the 300 level entry of Rogers Arena.
https://vancouver.ca/files/cov/northeast-false-creek-plan.pdf

I wonder if the office space section of the station might be removed or repurposed.
