The development block map for the area:

Did the city ever identify the Development Partner here? I recall seeing like a year or so ago them having a tender out for it.. I suspect these buildings may be too small for a lot of builders to really want to take on. Perhaps Core Urban stepped up? They seem to like smaller scale stuff.

I'm not sure I heard anyone, but it doesn't seem like the buildings have started. This picture I took seems to be where an open space would be? I've seen a render somewhere of a park with art in it or something. I'm wondering if that's what I took a picture of?

Something tells me the final design is going to be very different from those southern USA retirement home-looking renders.

I think that open space section where you took this photo at the foot of James st is mostly stairs and ramps.

Found the photo I was looking for but no detailed map. Looks to be some kind of open plaza at the level of Guise and the foot of James St N

checked out the site today. Impressed with the work so far. Lots of new boat slips to the west. Anyone know what the large yellow steel structure near the Haida is for. At first glance looks like it would make a great stage set up area for entertainment, but not at its current location?

I believe it is meant for exactly that. They won't be huge concerts or shows though. And its design is an homage to the working cranes on the harbour piers.

I think given it's pretty much standing alone right now it looks a bit out of place. But as the pier is developed I think that will change.

Where would you rather this have gone? Parrish & Heimbecker had concerns the residential development would interfere with their operations by leading to complaints, given the grain dust their terminal generates. This won't stop that from occurring, but at least it may provide a bit wider of a buffer.

Here's a great aerial shot from last May. If they wanted to have a larger event a floating stage could be an option, some temp bleachers, or just let people bring lawn chairs and pick a spot with a view.

When are the first condo buildings expected to go up? This whole project is agonizingly slow.

no idea on when they expect sales to launch. I feel like it's moved agonizingly slowly since they picked a development partner. No idea what's going on.

I mean, they picked the development partner, what, 5 years ago now? Why so long? They still don't even have site plan applications for any of the buildings in, just a couple of zoning amendments filed early last year.

Hamilton seems to constantly do this thing where is gives land to a developer with no obligation to build anything and so the developer sits on the land forever as the cost of housing increases and their profit margins go up. If it's not land they've been given, it's special permissions that Farr loved to give out only to see nothing materialize.

The developer here again seems to be taking their sweet time for Hamilton's waterfront property to be worth the maximum return before starting.

You took the words out of my mouth. I don't want to believe that those are serious proposed buildings, as opposed to pre-existing illustrative assets thrown together to illustrate massing. Moreover, who in their right might thought these are appropriate densities for a central waterfront redevelopment area?? And a miniscule little retirement home hotel like that is DOA in this market and location.

I know you're new to Hamilton, so you may not know: those old-time looking buildings will be on the land between the water and tall, bright white building in the upper half of the photo thomax shared.

Those large square blocks, that have the waterfront park with the "crane" running around the perimeter, will be developed as below:

The Artisan village is meant to evoke similar design features of the very successful and much sought after Halifax waterfront. I think they are appropriate density and even designs for that style of project. I do wish it were a bit more colourful and interesting though similar to Halifax. It seems that the as planned by the City is very sterile and utility based copy of Halifax, but with that being said, I do believe they were meant to be an inspirational design showing massing and potential design elements for a future bidder on the project.

Is there a construction timeline for the Artisan Village?
