They're both gone. Interesting how St. Jamestown isn't uniform or homogenous compared to American housing projects, though. Seems like the developers purposely tried to randomize the arrangment a bit, where in the U.S. public housing projects are always comprised of uniform designs and patterns.

I'll never forget the first time I saw the Robert Taylor Homes when I drove up the Dan Ryan Expressway as a 19-year-old kid on my way to Winnipeg from Hamilton. Daunting and epic.

Co-op City in The Bronx & several other NYC tower block projects/neighbourhoods are pretty similar.

Well, Jamestown isn't a public housing project. While the initial construction was built by (I believe) a single developer, it was done so over phases from the late 50s to late 60s; and then a few TCHC buildings went up in the 70s. Even now there are still new towers being built.

Bit of a different scenario from the typically masterplanned public housing developments of the US. Their classic cruciform red-brick design is also just older than anything comparable in Canada. Most were built in the 40s and 50s, while we didn't really get into that until the 60s and 70s; by which time everywhere in the states outside of NYC had already stopped building new ones. The contemporaries that did exist like Starrett City in outer Brooklyn or Co-op City in the Bronx wouldn't look out of place in Toronto though (but they do still have a more generally uniform appearance).

St James Town was built by a consortium of five developers. I think there are 4 distinct phases built over 30 year. Each phase does have a uniform look to it.

Same consortium built Crescent Town and Massey Square. It was built all at once and is often confused as a housing project for its uniformity. Crescent Town is the name of the purposed built rentals. Massey Square are the purpose built Condos.

It’s East village directly behind city hall shot from across the river in Bridgeland (shackland to lio).

Dubious star architecture is Edmonton's thing. The library is consistent with the art gallery.

That's a great angle of the library. Edmonton's is more urban minded.
