That's about as much as I am willing to say right now.
Can you say which part of downtown? West or east of the Subway? I only say this because I find the western half to be developing a big of its own character compared to the older part of downtown.

I've probably said too much as it is. I don't want to piss off my source. Like I said, you won't have long to wait, maybe 3-4 weeks for the announcement.

Peeple must stay true to their sources or we may never hear of anything new coming down the pipe if the beans get spiilled prrematurely. You are so well connected, I would hate you to lose anyone as a source.

The curiosity is killing me! If it's a significant addition that'll change the neighbourhood but it's not a building, what could it be?

It's a very difficult balance. When I receive information from a trusted source, but it is confidential, I will usually ask them what I can say about it. Sometimes I am advised not to say much at all. In this situation, if I elect to post about it, I try to be as circumspect as possible so as not to violate this trust. In this particular case, the degree of confidentiality is high, therefore I can say very little. Even by noting that the announcement concerns the downtown area may have gone too far. I hope not.

Otherwise, most of what I post about is freely available on the interweb. I just serve as a collator of this information and post about it in whatever way I want. This is the detective work that I enjoy the most. There is nothing like coming up with a scoop and realizing you are the first non connected person in the city to have put 2+2 together.

Oh, it is a building, just not a very big building, and it concerns more what the building will contain. It will be very popular.

I’m guessing imax theatre . It would be a good addition downtown.

The only thing that comes to mind is the Moncton Market, but that would be a decent sized building. The other thing that comes to mind is a parking garage, which again doesn’t seem to fit.

I'm going to guess a confirmation of a small building in the Aquilini block. To house Baton Rouge.

Small. But tasty.

Why would anyone be excited to announce that when it's been rumoured /basically confirmed for months now?

A rumour is a rumour until it is confirmed. So, far, there is nothing official, just lots of circumstantial evidence and (mostly) second hand rumours.

It may look like a duck, and talk like a duck, but in the end, could still turn out to be a goose.

Even if this "big announcement" is for Baton Rouge (and I'm not saying that it is), there will still be lots of information forthcoming at the time of the announcement which could prove to be very enlightening, and, potentially exciting.

It would indeed be very cool, but it isn't.

The Cineplex at Trinity is getting long in the tooth. I think a Junxion would work very well there (throw in an IMAX too).

There'd have to be a lot of research done to see if these would be viable in our market. IMAX for Moncton has been talked about for years. Either or both would be a great addition for the city. I just can't see it happening any time soon.

Not to mention plunking down yet another chain restaurant certainly doesn't "change the character" of the downtown

I'm really hoping the announcement concerns the proposed market on Downing, and that it'll be open 7 days a week. IMO that would be a much-needed game changer for the downtown, would make living there far more appealing, and would have much more of an impact in a whole bunch of ways than any random retail outlet or restaurant.

The new Market will be part of a major building. This announcement doesn’t include a major building. Don’t get your hopes up for this one.

Hopefully the Market/Downing St project gets announced later this year and start in Sept.
