Probably getting reallocated to some new exotic destination, unlike what tends to happen at YUL where gone is gone.

Calm down. AC has been trimming Europe flights from all of their hubs in S23, including mine.

That slot is timed for west coast ops, not east coast. I’m guessing AC wanted to free up a frame for China service, and they might have found an airline to lease the LHR slot to.

Or, WS starting year round YYC-LHR is crowding western Canada-LHR and this is AC adjusting capacity.

It might be a combination of both, actually.

I'd assume the same. There's a lot of connectivity to LHR anyways on the AC network. With the limited flights China seems pretty lucrative at the moment.

Japan sale: Air Canada, WestJet offering cheap Vancouver flights to Tokyo.

Vancouverites looking to travel to Japan's largest city on the cheap may want to book their tickets right now.

Canada's two largest airlines appear to be battling each other to offer the best deal to Tokyo as both of them currently have the destination on sale.

Air Canada is offering reduced base fares on nonstop, direct round-trip flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Narita International Airport (NRT) for travel from Feb. 1 to Nov. 30, 2023.

For example, a Vancouver flight departing on Sept. 30 and returning on Nov. 12 costs $1,445.66 including all taxes and fees and both flights are direct.

Get even cheaper round-trip Vancouver flights to Tokyo, Japan with WestJet

WestJet is also offering "limited-time discounted fares" to Tokyo, which is the airline's newest destination.

In November 2022, WestJet announced a new codeshare agreement with Japan Airlines (JAL) that allowed its "WS" code to appear on JAL-operated flights between the two airports.

While the direct option is convenient, travellers can expect to pay over $2,000 for return, direct airfare.

For travellers who don't mind making a stop or two, WestJet's sale provides discounts on round-trip service to the popular destination for travel from April 29 to Oct. 28, 2023. Tickets must be booked by Jan. 24 at 10:59 p.m. to take advantage of the offer.

For example, a flight that departs YVR on June 7 and makes stops in Kelowna and Calgary on the outbound journey and then makes one stop on the return in Calgary costs $1,289.62 including all taxes and fees. While there are two stops on the way out, the one in Kelowna is just over an hour and the one in Calgary is under four.

I posted it on YVR forum by a mistake.

Flair increase YVR-LAS to 5x weekly and YVR-AZA to 3x weekly for the month of March.

I guess the transborder routes are doing much better now compared to June last year, good enough for frequency improvement one month ahead?

So with historical LF and recent frequency adjustments, in Flair's term,
Looks like the following routes are performing well: LAX, LAS, AZA
Looks like the following routes are not performing well: SFO, PSP

Also, looks like Flair haven't given up YVR-YLW yet, as the operation is now extended into May.

Anyone know what's going on with the parking lot at the BCIT Aerospace campus? The last few times I've driven by it the south end is full of cars parked about four deep, so it's not student parking. They're not brand new cars so it isn't dealer storage. Is it being used for long term parking?

So SQ finally set up proper feed from the Canadian side after 2 years, instead of feeding all Canadian traffic through SEA/LAX/SFO. Not sure if they still plan to remove the route by October. The route still open or reservation full fare on or after Oct 1.

Could this codeshare agreement be a last ditch idea to see if the route is worth keeping ?

Also what does "reservation full fare" mean.

That means they sell the ticket with no restriction, but so expensive that no one in their right mind would buy them. Typically those fare appears when a route is just added, or is pending removal or changes. For SQ's case, it's not an add because discount fare after October had been available previously for a few months.

For instance, a round-trip economy YVR-SIN would be $3600+ after October, compared to about $1300-$1400 before October. But even if someone purchased it, the fare would be fully refundable anyways.

But since AC/SQ will now be code sharing, maybe the route will stay in one form or another (re-timed? transfer to AC??). I will only be convinced that the route is staying for the long term when the fare goes back to normal and SQ actually bother to add a "flights-to-Vancouver" destination page. Without that, it suggests the route is just temporary.

By the way, the following will be new destinations served with SQ code through codeshare:
YXS, YQR, YXE, YWG, YOW, YHZ

Maybe SQ want to expand Canadian business, and some of those destination can only be feed through YVR... even though flight to SIN have awful time for connection...

That was a joke? Might be time to brush up the ol routine before hitting the stage at just for laughs...

Quick rule of thumb, jokes are supposed to have an element of humour to them.

Given the rather public dislike between AC and SQ or SQ and Star Alliance in general in the past I think this is a pretty good sign that SQ are going to give YVR an honest try as a permanent location.

Up to now if you were flying from YYZ to SIN for instance you would be routed through SFO, SEA or LAX, now there is a decent feed to YVR and it no longer just relies on O&D. SQ always seemed like a good fit for YVR due to it being a Star Alliance hub, but then SQ did nothing to take advantage of that, good to see them taking a step towards embracing that advantage.

And ya, the timing is weird. It works in the summer but not in the winter. Summer anywhere from YYZ and west can get to YVR in plenty of time for a connection, but in the winter it seems AC181 and 101 are gone so there's no way to make it from Toronto without overnighting. All SQ needs to do is move the flight an hour or so later and it should work pretty well year round.
