TBM break through

Beautiful

So does anyone know how long the refurb at Main Street will take before this TBM can launch to Cambie Street???

This is gonna go like gangbusters from now on.

With any luck TBM 2 pops in 6 weeks or so and then also launches.

Then we can see Main Street being closed up.

For all the decades of waiting, I have a good feeling today.

Did you know that #TunnelBoringMachine Elsie’s tunnel between GNW and MP has 3,102 tunnel liner segments forming 517 rings and is 734.821 m long?
Each tunnel liner ring is made up of 6 segments, all manufactured in Nanaimo, BC!

Take a look at the indented tracks built at the base of the future Mount Pleasant Station.
Now that #TunnelBoringMachine Elsie is in the station box, she will slide across on these steel tracks before continuing on her journey under Broadway!

Hi Terry- TBM Elsie will be in Mount Pleasant for a few weeks before launching towards Broadway-City Hall. We’ll keep you updated on Elsie’s progress as she gets closer.

It's in my neck of the woods. If I've got time, I'll do a bird's eye drone video.

I will be, I had a look on Thursday and it hadn’t been pulled out at all yet.

Thanks to everyone who posts these images, I don't get downtown that often these days so it is nice to see what is happening on this project.

Great Image.

one can see why the TBM is only pulled out about 70 feet or so. The first 70 feet is where all the "expendables" are located (cutters, hydraulics, etc.) where all the wear and tear really goes on.

So, a couple of weeks of this, then off she goes.

Does anyone know for sure whether the spoils will be extracted at Main Street or whether the conveyor belt goes all the way back to the flats.

I can't imagine the TBM having a 5 kilometer conveyor belt carrying spoils as it approached Arbutus.

And, they cannot start prepping that part of the tunnel for tracks etc, until the belt assembly is gone.

Seems like it's simple to do a conveyor belt system 5-10KM

https://www.helogistik.de/en/references/tunnelling-case-study/

Probably easier to send it back to Great Northern Way through the unused tunnel since it won't interfere with station construction.

According to Metrolinx
Quote:
As the tunnel is being dug out, the tunnel boring machine uses a built-in mechanical device called a segment erector to install pre-cast reinforced concrete liner panels (called segments) to form the tunnel walls. Each segment is fastened into place, and cement grout is injected behind them to form sturdy rings. The machine moves itself forward with hydraulic jacks to push off of the newly installed segment ring.
They also have a rather large image to go along with this. Also today I learned the spoils are called 'muck'.

Great. Your videos are excellent btw, thanks!

There doesn't seem to be any facility/plans to remove spoils at Main. We shall have to wait and see though.

Would be interesting to see how conveyor negotiates the curves in the tunnel from start to Main Street. Straight line, basically, from Main to Arbutus though.

On to Cambie station!

It's hung from the tunnel liner probably like this
