This could be a really cool area someday. I think the right inspiration is for it to look a bit like a North American equivalent of what you see in, say, Rotterdam.
Unfortunately it had some uninspired urban planning for a long time. Not sure exactly what to call it but instead of embracing the urban industrial area it sought to make it bland and suburban with a lot of vague greenspace. Curvy roads, setbacks, etc. That townhouse development is really bad with driveways, a cul-de-sac, and no sidewalk or interaction whatsoever with the Alderney side. The green strip is labeled as a park but it has no clear pedestrian access.
