H-E-B Lake Austin sets opening date for first multi-level store in city

Quote:
H-E-B had a busy 2022, and the grocery chain will continue that momentum into next year.

H-E-B has announced an opening date for its first multi-level store in Austin, which began construction back in 2019 but faced numerous pandemic-related delays. On February 15, 2023, the Lake Austin H-E-B at 715 S. Exposition Blvd., Austin, TX 78703, will open to shoppers.

I haven't seen anyone mentioning this new 20K seat music venue proposed for West Austin. It'll be on Fitzhugh Road, and is currently in the proposal process.

With HEB building a new store on the site of the old Nutty Broan Ampitheatre, this would be a welcome relpacement for the area. Does anyone know any more about this place?

https://communityimpact.com/austin/south...hitheater-proposed-for-southwest-austin/

The more than 20,000-seat outdoor amphitheater is set to fit more spectators than the Hollywood Bowl. The venue, northwest of Hwy. 71 and Southwest Parkway, will be uphill from Austin’s downtown and will overlook the skyline.
It seems like there are actually two separate venues proposed in the area. The one pictured is the 20,000 seat Violet Crown Amphitheater on Hwy 71 just NW of Southwest Parkway, between Oak Hill and Bee Cave. It appears to be little more than a pipedream to flip difficult to develop property.

The Fitzhugh Concert Venue is 5,000 seats a few miles southwest of there near the intersection with Crumley Ranch Road, between Bee Cave and Dripping Springs. There is an active coalition of environmental and neighborhood groups fighting it: https://stopfitzhughconcertvenue.com/

As noted, the area is not new to large outdoor concert venues. In addition to the former Nutty Brown Cafe, the original Backyard used to be located across 71 from the Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave and there had been a proposal to build a new one just to the west near Bee Cave Parkway / Hamilton Pool Road, but that seems to be dead. There is now a venue in Fredericksburg going by the same name.

A lot of these projects seem to have a connection to Real Estate Developer Christopher Milam whose involvement in the area has been rather controversial.

Site plan filed for MF/Restaurant at 9th and Lavaca (901 Lavaca Street). Is this a known project? What is the height potential for this lot?

https://abc.austintexas.gov/public-searc...n=13077975&t_selected_propertyrsn=176848

Edit: Seems like only a small sliver in the NW corner of the site is encumbered by a CVC. Does the capitol dominance overlay apply here?

Capitol dominance overlay was effectively removed last year: https://www.austinmonitor.com/stories/20...es-development-bonuses-near-the-capitol/

So theoretically we could be looking at something similar to what is proposed at 14th and Guad?

Truluck's is moving into 300 Colorado. It's under construction and their logo is in the windows. Is there an impending redevelopment of their existing location?

Tower Crane license agreement filed for Shoal Cycle at 812 W 11th Street with Flintco as the GC. The site plan must be close to approval. 62 multi-family units with 3,400 sqft of ground floor restaurant space. Can we please get 50 more of these in this low density corner of downtown?

Grant Plaza Redevelopment Bringing Downtown Residences to Sixth Street

Quote:
The redevelopment of the Grant Plaza office complex at 611 East Sixth Street, occupying a full block at the far eastern end of what’s considered Sixth Street’s famous strip of shot bars, represents an opportunity for something new in downtown’s most troubled district — but we underestimated just how drastically the site’s owners at New York-based firm Empire Square Group are shifting gears.

The latest plans reviewed by the city for the 1.74-acre site describe an approximately 259-unit multifamily residential project known for now as The Grant Building, containing ground-floor retail use and two levels of underground parking. The structure rises to a maximum height of 10 floors at the corner of East Sixth and Sabine Streets, and drops to a height of five floors on the rest of the block to avoid the multiple Capitol View Corridors passing over the site.

The building’s design by the recently-opened Austin office of global architecture firm Steinberg Hart, working with local landscape architecture studio dwg., includes nearly 8,000 square feet of retail at the ground level facing Sixth Street, described in the site plan as restaurant space. The rest of the building contains a mix of multifamily residences, including studios alongside one, two, and three-bedroom units.
