Yeah. That seems a little bizarre. It’s clearly not for ventilation because all the cladding is just covering the block wall portions. It wouldn’t be ventilating anything. I trust they know exactly what they are doing. Still going to look good I bet.

It does look a little odd,

To be honest I don't know how I feel about the "bronze-ish" cladding, solid panels or perforated. I'll probably need to see more of the building dressed in it, but the colour as it is, under dull winter skies, does not impress me. Yet it's different from anything we have in the city. So fingers crossed.

I wasn't sure about the Fall 2023 date advertised, but it's looking more and more like it's going to happen. Cladding is going up every day now, and they only have a few more floors. They are currently filling the space where the second crane was that was removed. I'd suspect we start to see cladding on the first floor and tower start in the coming weeks, and they will likely be done the tower by mid-February. Wouldn't be surprised to see interior finishings begin if they haven't already on the lower levels. I haven't see drywall arrive yet, but I did see plumbing materials on site.

I don't get peoples obsession with canyons - personally I find the stretch of king between this location and king and james to be some of the most oppressive feeling unwalkable stretches in the entire city - from the bank to the AGH it's just so pedestrian unfriendly. The ellen faircloud part is just horrible.

I much prefer the feeling along james - where you have 3-6 stories and any high rises set back so theyre just there but don't feel like they are closing you in - that and canyons are notorious for lack of sunlight and being cold and windy.

Now, this building sure looks tall now (by Hamilton's standards...). Funny how almost all the taller buildings on King street are on the south side of the street and the "sunnyside" (northside) are smaller.

The worst part about this stretch is that the city designated it as a pedestrian corridor, but no retail is being build along it from Bay to Caroline for the most part. I'm glad to see 213 King St and Radio City have some commercial, but the massive McMaster building that takes up 2/3 of the south side has none.

Also LRT can't come soon enough holy shit. I will literally be so fucking excited the day King St is shut down for construction to start.

Realistically it's going to be a nightmare for most of the people living in the area and their businesses

Yeah they are just kinda extending it - that unfriendly aspect- I don't get it - and they have all this residential crammed in - where do people shop?

And yeah yeah I get it it's not THAT far from the core, but I dunno.. It just doesn't seem very well.. prioritized.. but hey, at least A&W will get business..

I always feel in my mind that downtown just ENDS past king and james - like everything just feels like a big crammed disorganized mess at that point. I wish they had gone with the original city hall design where the entire area in front of city hall was supposed to be like a central corridor for blocks, keep it open, but whatever,.. maybe one day theyll demolish jackson as well.

I feel like this concern is unfounded though. Yes King will be closed, but there is parallel roads running along King. Customers for these businesses are still going to be able to get to these stores, easily.

I'm so, so pumped for this. Businesses will survive, some may close but their landlords are idiots then, but Hamilton will be so much better for it. And honestly as someone who lives downtown, everyone driving through my neighbourhood can pound sand.

Does anyone know what kind of businesses will be going at the stops along the LRT? Just curious - I mean if you're gonna take the LRT, you're gonna wanna use it to get to.. specific things.. I hope they've planned that out..
