Ontario is lumping together all the various amusement and water parks regardless of location and does not want to be seen as giving preferable treatment to any of them. There may be concerns of certain parks and their ability to provide adequate protection to the public. Some of the parks may have more interior attractions.

Don't know if this has been posted before, or if there is a news article about it.

But I think its safe to say the Pro-slide Waterpark off Moodie is officially dead.

All the land is for sale, ~17 million for a total of 304 acres (124hec) Zoned RU and not part of the Urban boundary, and a lot of it considered unevaluated wetlands.

Assuming either industrial, Landfill or Quarry is its future.

Was just looking to see if any 50+ acres lots were for sale on realtor.ca, surprisingly there is quite a few inside Ottawa. Including a very nice home off river rd and a portion of the ridge area east of Orleans.

As for the sale I assume the pandemic and the loss of the Chalet at Mont Cascade has finally forced the owners hand.

on other random notes, never realized the city owned the land that Tomlinson - Howe-Ross Pit occupies and the lot North of alotawatta for fire service use (4041 MOODIE DR)

Calypso Waterpark sold to U.S.-based REIT as part of $180M deal

OBJ staff
Published: Jun 2, 2022 4:42pm EDT

Calypso Waterpark is changing hands as part of a deal that will see a U.S. real estate investment trust acquire the Eastern Ontario tourist attraction along with a resort near Quebec City for nearly $180 million.

The Calypso-Valcartier Group said Thursday it’s agreed to sell the water park as well as the four-season Village Vacances Valcartier resort to Kansas City-based EPR Properties for US$142 million, or about $179 million in Canadian funds.

Calypso-Valcartier president and chief operating officer Sylvain Lauzon will continue to lead operations at the two properties, which will now be managed by Oklahoma-based Premier Parks.

“There is simply no other group in our industry that has more experience designing, building and operating visitor attractions,” Lauzon said of Premier Parks, which operates more than a dozen amusement and water parks in the United States and Canada.

“We look forward to working together to grow our parks and continue to offer unforgettable memories for our visitors.”

Opened in 2010, Calypso is Canada’s largest water park, featuring 35 waterslides, the country’s largest wave pool and two lazy rivers. Located in Limoges, about 35 kilometres east of Ottawa, the facility can accommodate up to 12,000 visitors a day and typically draws more than 400,000 customers each year.

Planned water park at Petrie Island won't open in 2022
Nova Scotia company pushes back proposed park opening to 2023

Matthew Kupfer · CBC News
Posted: Jun 18, 2022 4:00 AM ET | Last Updated: June 18

Despite a motion that sailed through Ottawa city council last week, plans for an inflatable water park at Petrie Island have been pushed back at least a year.

Splashifax, a Nova Scotia-based company, was proposing to install an inflatable unicorn and obstacle course at Petrie Island as early as this summer as part of a two-year pilot project.

A motion by Orléans Coun. Matt Luloff last week led to a social media firestorm with hundreds of posts from residents and nature lovers concerned about the impact the water park on the community.

Many comments on Facebook tagged the Friends of Petrie Island.

Sherry Nigro, a volunteer with the group, said members are concerned about an increase in traffic and the potential burden on the local flora and fauna — which include rare turtles, birds and plants.

"People are using [the park] for access to nature," Nigro said. "Is that compatible with having a place that's much more of an amusement park?"

Al Tweddle, who chairs the group that has worked on conservation in the park for 25 years, said emergency vehicle access and parking at Petrie Island is already a problem on a sunny summer day without the hundreds of potential guests at Splashifax.

"I think the idea is good, I just think it should go someplace else," he said.

Tweddle said there are other uses for the park that could help young people engage with its ecological and natural value, without the same potential downsides.

"If you take too much away, you can't put it back."

Luloff said his motion at council last week was meant to have city staff explore the idea — saying it wouldn't be fair to bring the proposal forward without considering all the angles, which would include having the community weigh in.

"Let me be clear, this project is not going forward this year," Luloff said.

"It's simply impossible to ensure that we have that robust consultation on top of that half a dozen plus approvals that would be required to pull this off."

The councillor said he shares concerns about the ecological and traffic impact of the proposed water park and he spoke to Splashifax about their proposal after seeing some of the reaction.

The motion mentioned an anticipated approval from Transport Canada for the project, to be completed on June 9, but the federal department told CBC News the application remains under review.

Splashifax declined an interview with CBC News, but provided a statement where they said their plans to open this summer have been put off to next year.

"We're using that extra time to continue getting staff trained, talking to the community and completing the municipal approvals needed to bring jobs, family fun and the amazing Splashifax experience here next year," said CEO Kristina Lemieux in an email.

Do we know where at Petrie that would be, cause the beach is not a quiet oasis, but the pathways down heading to the western tip of the island, a bit more.

You can't upload photos directly to this forum. You would need to upload them to a photo hosting site, then link to them from here.

Noooo wayyyyy.... I have been dreaming about a Great Wolf Lodge in Ottawa for many years. They are building it in Cornhole?!?!?

I'll still hold out hope they will someday convert the Canadian Tire Centre into the flagship Great Wolf Lodge.

I was just talking to someone about that yesterday how it would be cool if the Canadian Tire Centre was converted to a massive indoor waterpark or indoor ski centre.

I think a mini version of Germany's Tropical Islands Waterpark would do very well there.
