Gym would absolutely be more of the same as the last 8 years if not worse. Gym winning would be disastrous for a Philadelphia trying to recover from a pandemic, tackle high crime and find its footing and path forward in a new era. We need someone more moderate and even-keeled like Nutter, Domb, Rhynhart, Green or Jeff Brown. A progressive like Gym would be awful. The business community is rallying against her and that’s all I need to hear to be against her.

See the nonsense wealth tax idea introduce by Gauthier, Brooks, and Gym...

And while frustrating, I don't see Delta or United introducing new PHL routes...
I know that demographics aren't the primary drivers of route planning, but you would think with our VERY fast growing East and South Asian populations that were would be some analytics that show that there is enough traffic to support a route to either China or India.

Interestingly, I have a friend from NYC who recently flew to Harare (Zimbabwe) to visit her father from Philadelphia on the Qatar flight to Doha. I didn't ask her why she came down here for that flight versus flying from NYC, but something about it was definitely compelling.

I’m getting the sense in a lot of ways that Nutter could personally decide the outcome of this election if he wants to. Let’s say if he doesn’t run, he could simply endorse one of the candidates that isn’t Gym (it’d likely be Rhynhart), connect them with some Bloomberg cash and it’d essentially be game over for everyone else. He’s the King\Queen maker and can probably effectively lead in helping to consolidate the vote against Gym. If he doesn’t run, this needs to be the path forward.

Someone call Nutter!”. Nutter probably doesn’t care for her either and I’m guessing saw some recent internals - hence the out of the blue news that he’s somewhat considering running again.
I was polled about 2 weeks ago and from what I recall one question dealt with my perception of Nutter and of course my perception of Kenney's performance.

Interesting. A lot of early internal polls tend to be theatre essentially. They’re usually paid for by the candidates themselves, pacs etc to help shape their chosen narrative and solicit donations. They can fudge the numbers to get their desired results. So who knows what’s really going on… while I don’t doubt she has some support, maybe the results showing Gym ahead were designed to support drafting Nutter.

+1

Rank Choice is especially useful in places dominated by one party rule. Frankly, I would scrap primaries entirely and just go with Rank Choice Voting, which anyway ends up being two-phased with runoffs.

Is she popular enough even in a crowded field?

Jeff Brown is the only person who has opened and run businesses in parts of the city that were long ignored and seems to have the respect of those areas. I'm not opposed to someone from the business community running for mayor.

I just can't see Helen Gym winning the nomination and she would be a total disaster. McNesby would tell his members to roll back even more than he does to eff with Kenney and Krasner.

Philly Skyline featured on new Fox series...

The trailer for the new Fox series Alert: Missing Persons Unit features the Philadelphia skyline in all it's glory.
Hard to tell if the actual storyline takes place in Philly or not?
Alert airs Sunday evening after NFL football (Eagles are on CBS).

Set in Philly, shot probably in an alley in LA lol. But for real, the nighttime shot shows the skyline possibly around April 2021 when they were testing One LP's upgraded lights and the W lights. The shot with the Benjamin Franklin Bridge was possibly shot around late 2021 or early 2022 as the crane is off of Arthaus and the crane is still attached to The Laurel

At least they actually took the time to go get updated shots, I've seen way too many movies and shows use green screens or old shots before Comcast II, And many other changes have occurred.

I'm glad someone took the time to do things, hopefully this show lasts a couple seasons, I think if proven successful we may see more Cop/ER Shows in the area, and that would be a big boost for the entertainment seen, and the Philly Metro as a whole.

What do you mean? There’s been numerous shows based in Philadelphia the past several years including How To Get Away With Murder, Abbott Elementary, The Goldbergs and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Mare of Easttown was also a fantastic miniseries that came out in 2021 set in Philly/Delco, and Servant is a fantastic M. Night show on AppleTV set in Philadelphia.

Don't forget Servant produced by our boy M. Night. It's a good show if you haven't checked it out.

My thoughts exactly (but I sadly clicked anyway). The summary of her ramble is that the Mayor should be someone fresh (I guess a good track record means nothing?)... By her logic, Jeff Brown would be the logical choice, but I'm guessing she will support Helen Gym...

A young white woman blocked me on FB last night because I shared reasons why Helen Gym would be an awful choice for Mayor, lol.

It was a debate in that good ole "Philadelphia Urban Planning, Policy and Design" group. So unfortunately yes, I think she has a shot, only because the field is crowded, and she can draw in the progressive vote and run away with it. That is why I hope a few candidates drop out and Nutter backs Rhynhart instead of running.

Agree. The show was likely filmed in 2022, so skyline shots within a year are good. I have seen egregious examples of Philadelphia skyline from 2008 on recent national broadcasts and TV shows. There were some skyline shots in the Kevin Hart series "True Story" from ~2010. In the days of social media that is ridiculous. It would be like showing NYC in 2023 without the World Trade Center (which would never happen).

Love Abbott Elementary!

Servant is also very good. The 4th and final season airs next week!

Exactly. Rhynhart isn’t my top choice (probably my 4th or 5th frankly), but if Nutter endorses her and she starts to lead the pack, I’m all in.
