This request is based on dramatically increased school enrolment throughout the region. Another anglophone high school for Moncton North is still necessary, and the request for a Dieppe school will not impact on this.

The existing anglophone school in Dieppe (Lou MacNarin) would revert to a K-5 elementary school should the new anglophone middle/high school get built.

Actually, I misread the article. Because of enrolment pressures, Lou MacNairn is already a K-5 school. If you are an anglophone middle or high school student, you now have to be bussed out of Dieppe.

Enrolment is up 1,200 students in anglophone east since last year!

The concrete roadside barriers along Acadie that were installed for the Promenade 9 Phase 2 project have all been removed. This would seem to indicate that the stoppage could be somewhat long term - maybe the spring? I assume they did this to allow for snow clearing. When the barriers were first installed, the lanes were reconfigured and it made them very narrow and somewhat dangerous anyway as they sort of quickly jutted out and back in again.

Couple of snippets from the December agenda for the City of Dieppe council meeting:

That Council authorize the municipal signing officers to sign the development agreement between the City of Dieppe and PlazaCorp Property Holdings Inc. for the development of a commercial real estate project on the land identified under PID 70549845.

That PID corresponds to a parcel of land on the east side of Dieppe Blvd between Rufin and Englehart. The lot extends all the way to Hartnett in back, and was sold on 29/07/2022 for $925,000. Given that PlazaCorp was the purchaser, we can assume that a commercial/retail plaza is planned for this location.

That Council authorize the municipal signing officers to sign the development agreement between Global Pet Foods and the City of Dieppe (Schedule B) for the construction of a commercial building on the land identified under PID 70393566.

This PID corresponds to the lot on the NE corner of Rufin and Hartnett, close to the other lot mentioned above. This lot was sold on 25/05/2022 for $375,000.

Meanwhile, the intervening lot (PAN 05478795) on the NE corner of Dieppe Blvd and Rufin has also recently sold (03/08/2022), for $1,728,000. I have no additional information on this, but this is a large lot on a prominent intersection, and, given surrounding commercial activity, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to deduce that another commercial project is likely planned for here as well.

More to the above, I have seen chatter on social media that Superstore may be looking at that third lot (PAN 05478795) at the NE corner of Rufin & Dieppe Blvd for a new location.

Are we looking at a potential major retail node on Dieppe Blvd consisting of a Superstore, an immediately adjacent commercial plaza (PlazaCorp) and a Global Pet Food store across the street?

Something may be in the works..........

I had notice in the summer that all the lots along there had sold. I was curious as to what was going on. I will say tho, if Superstore is building a new store, they will likely use their own real estate arm, rather than sign with Plaza Corp. Even still, PlazaCorp has a solid reputation and attracts high quality tenants. This a big for this area.

Superstore is still a rumour, but, I think this is exactly what is going on here. The lot that PlazaCorp has purchased is right in the middle of the block, and only really makes sense if the adjacent large lot at the corner of Rufin/Dieppe Blvd is also developed at the same time.

I suspect an anchor (like Superstore) will occupy their own building on the corner lot, and PlazaCorp will build their own retail plaza on the adjacent lot, with the two having a combined shared parking area.

This could be the case, they should be the shadow anchor. Have a superstore building and a plaza Corp retail plaza next door. This seems to be likely what may happen.

Lou MacNairn is extremely overcrowded from what I gather. Not sure how a new school for 6-12 would alleviate that. A K-12 school certainly would.

Either way, I don't know where they'd build it. Likely to be way out in Lakeburn.

There is still space within the built-up area of the city such as Alain-Gillette street and off Dieppe blvd and Kedgwick drive. Not that I expect the government to pick anything other than far flung parts of Greater Lakeburn or Melanson settlement.

Maybe we could tie a new anglophone school to the final extension of Dieppe Blvd to the Dover Road.

There is a precedent. The city of Dieppe extended Dieppe Blvd from Melanson to Belle-Foret to allow for construction of a new fire station and Ecoles Le Marais & Antoinine-Maillet.

There would be lots of room on an extended Dieppe Blvd for a new anglophone school, and it wouldn't be that far out of the way of the burgeoning portion of the Dieppe Blvd corridor. Another new school on this section of Dieppe Blvd would also help stimulate further population growth in this part of town.

If you are referring to Promenade Neuf phase two, there was a stop work order put on the construction site, presumably over some legal issue. This is why there has been no activity since they installed the tower crane. Hopefully this will be resolved by next spring.

I heard the legal issue is related to digging 1ft into adjacent lot property line.

Acadie Nouvelle had an article yesterday confirming Pizza Salvatore would open a location in Dieppe in March. However the article did not confirm exact location.
