The blocks that don't within the project area (Hemlock to Birch, Ash to Cambie, Quebec to Main, all only on the North Side) all already have buildings with rear access from 8th Avenue.

Not entirely moot. Some have access from 8th, and indeed, most from the lane. Because there's a significant level change on the north side of Broadway, some of the buildings have parking spots, and a delivery bay on the lane that's a level below the retail stores. They often have steps up to a exterior corridor that has access to a back door, but it's not possible to deliver anything on a dolly, or a trolley for example. A few older buildings were constructed to the property edge without any sort of parking or drop off, so deliveries would block the lane, which would be inconvenient. Those lanes are often busy with commercial garbage pickup, and they often block the lanes as well.

It's not impossible to fix, and it's addressed whenever a new building is developed, but it's why so many stores along Broadway get deliveries from the street rather than the lane, or 8th Avenue.

If only there were some device that was designed to elevate goods from one level to the next safely.... Till someone invents that kind of elevating device, we cannot change things.

And by telling those businesses by a certain date, all deliveries must be at the rear of the building, it allows someone to invent such an elevating device.

I certainly did! Having lived on UBC campus for 4 years I can't stop thinking how bad it is that the SkyTrain is not getting built in one phase all the way through! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to get to work in Burnaby via 3 different modes of transportation: bike, transit, and car. Summertime biking was the best! The car was really good too! But for those who take a bus to UBC all the time it is a really bad and exhausting experience. Anyone who spent 1H 15Mins on bus 25 UBC to Brentwood would understand me.

They said it's half way there right before Christmas and that it would come out in January. I would lean towards the end of January but if anyone is in the area it might be worth looking into the pit to see any signs of it arriving soon.

If Translink permits it, there should be a basket full of images that I would find extremely interesting, all the way from breakout, refurb and relaunch.
By the time we get to Granville, this break out and break back in will get to be routine but the first one opens up all sorts of "new kinds of images" that are worth seeing.

There is also an interesting possibility, probably just for Main Street ... imagine if both TBMs were side by side at Main Street - probably just for a few days before one starts again - and a trillion workers doing a series of all nighters to get them going again.

The numbers don't line up for that to be a strong possibility but it would be fun.
