Broadway Subway - Millennium Line Extension to Arbutus | U/C

Well, more recently ABC voted to scrap Stanley Park Drive’s bike-only lane (Vancouver Sun Dec 8).

However, whatever your stance, currently it remains to be seen what direction council will take (with Broadway), so we're all just speculating needlessly.

On a serious note, the survey also mentioned sidewalk patios/benches, performance space and bus infrastructure, so that should be nice.

please, no bike lanes on broadway. 10th ave exists. If you want another one, put it on 8th. Commercial traffic will still use Broadway so it makes no sense to put a bike lane. Wider sidewalks? Sure.

It's interesting to watch the Broadway and Cambie area for drop offs. Even before the Skytrain construction, the outside lanes were always bus lanes, no parking, etc.

No matter what though, you'll never stop delivery vans, Ubers, taxis, people dropping older people off for medical appointments, and Doordashers from just stopping in those lanes for a few moments.

They painted them red for half a block and it didn't change anything. If you put a big Dr's office or a Chipotle there, people will stop for a minute or two no matter what.

You cannot have an honor system if you have people who lack any honor using it. If they are gonna paint it red, they should put up cameras that send fines that can be used to fund the system.

Anyone got any inside information as to when the first TBM pops at Main street.

There will be a nice series of images to be taken there.

1) the first TBM pops
2) open air maintenance
3) first TBM bites into a new wall and spoils are taken from main street instead of being carried all the way down to the flatlands.
4) second TBM pops at main street
5) maintenance
6) second TBM bites into the wall
7) spoils being taken from both TBMs at Main street
8) After both machines pop at cambie, spoils are not longer taken and then we get close up, station build, resurface the road at Main street and then remaining work is invisible to outsiders.

Rinse and repeat to Arbutus.

yes i do, but that doesnt change the facts that CoV staff have a lot of pull, and theve been stacked with 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 bike pushing fanatics that will push unrealistic ideas as much as they can. they've had free reign for awhile now.

this new council is a bit of an unknown at the moment. they did campaign on a few things so i am unsure how they would proceed with Broadway post subway. but as i said before, unless this council directly stops the narrowing to 2+2 lanes, i would bet 95% that it is a done deal.

this council is too new to have an accurate read on them; they're the unknown in this equation. i would bet 98% that CoV staff even already have a design made up on a 2+2 design.

If they have been making steady progress it should be soon. That said I haven't seen the conveyor running much or many dump trucks so possibly they are having some issues which isn't unexpected when tunneling.

Also, the conveyor will continue to GNW for the entirety of tunneling.

Yes any info or hearsay and I'm there, if the info is wrong and doesn't happen, that fine. There is a good view of the breach wall at the Main St. dig

It's not just Uber drivers. Canada Post doesn't care, Brinks, etc.

Reminds me of the Galil magazine problem - instead of telling people not to do a thing that they're going to ignore you and do anyway, you just create an alternative that works for everybody.

historically the CoV hasn't liked doing that since it takes away sidewalk space and accommodates cars. remember, CoV staff have historically hated cars and does everything it can to annoy them.

That is what Staff is doing and what they were directed to do by the last Council. They are to present to Council a few options in 2023 that Council will vote on or request Staff to amend.

because of all the other things they do, plus if you ever talked to any of these particular CoV staff you'll truly see how they think. not all of them are hating on cars, but i have talked to a few that 100% do hate on cars and are not shy about it.
