This isn't rare or unique. Waterloo is doing this heavily to attract Flair into their region.

Ottawa airport and region both have programs that put up $$ to attract airlines.

Indeed. Any airport can waive the airport fees for a year, but that's a far cry from revenue guarantees. This is why YOW want to finally get an air service development fund up and running so that they do can level the playing field and set up said revenue guarantees too.

What is the time frame for this? S23? If so, that is similar (minus the YEG route) from S22.

YOW-YYC actually goes down to 1x daily in the off-peak season this winter (Feb-March ish).

I actually noticed when trying to book a flight to YYJ that AC's B788 is back on YVR for a few days in April as well. (it's also here during this Christmas season).

I actually know quite a few people who fly YEG-YOW, but if AC wants to pump people through YYC then that's on AC. For YEG originating passengers, this is like flying YOW-YYZ-YEG... but they will fly YEG-YYC-YOW.

Just means AC's hubs aren't back to 100% yet (to S19 levels)

At least Porter and PAL serve YFC/YQM now. I could see PD basically takeover YYG and YYT though in a couple of years.

AC is really gutting YOW though, wow. YEG, YYT, YQM, YYG, BOS, YFC all completely cut in one update. EWR and BOS frequency cuts surprised me too. Only twice daily flights??

I understand that it is expensive to open a new station, but I am surprised that Porter has not ventured into PEI via YYG yet. Seems like a no-brainer.

They could even just fly it seasonally (which would add higher costs for the station though). Something like daily from YOW, 3 or 4x non-stop weekly from YTZ, with the other 3 or 4 frequencies via YOW (same plane).

Something like:
YTZ-YOW-YYG Tu/W/Sat
YOW-YYG Th/Fr/Sun/M
YTZ-YYG Th/Fr/Sun/M

And I agree on YYT... Prime for a ULCC to jump on this (Flair!) Maybe Lynx since they have a YYT station. Not sure on their fleet situation, but something like YYZ-YYT-YOW-YYT-YYZ 3x weekly would be great.

Probably not a lot of money left in PEI, 4 airlines fly into YYG and all for a population of 165K for the entire island.
There are 2-4 flights a day in non summer in YYG, not exactly a large in demand market.

The challenge for PEI is also that it isn't easy for that airport to serve a larger community off-island, because getting to the island involves costs too (not just gas but a $50 toll for the bridge or a ferry ride), limiting its ability to attract customers from nearby parts of the Maritimes (which already wouldn't be far from much larger airports like Halifax). Timewise you are not well served because going from Amherst (closest major community by road in Nova Scotia) to Charlottetown Airport is about an hour and 30 minutes while going to Halifax Airport is about an hour and 40 minutes!

I don't think they can ever expect to have more than a few flights... those of us in Ottawa can at least be grateful for our much better relative situation even with our proximity to hubs like Montreal and Toronto.

Was scheduled on PD224 at noon today and watched the Porter s**t show for 4 hours. Now on a train arriving at 10:30 tonite.

Porter operations needs retooling. I get weather can’t be controlled, but zero information was given. Got a text at 3:45pm telling me my flight was delayed to 2:00pm. At one point, our flight was listed at gate 41 (which doesn’t exist).. another time it showed as departed.

People at the gates were friendly enough, but the board often showed a departure time which was in the past. Porters own website listed the flight as completed on-time.

Not sure which specific problems were Porters and which belonged to YOW.. but it was a very frustrating day…. Arrrgh.

PAL actually only briefly flew YFC-YOW and later changed to YOW-YQM 6x weekly. At least PD still serve YFC like you said. So next summer AC will be down to the following destinations:
-YVR
-YYC
-YWG
-YYZ
-YTZ
-YUL
-YQB
-YHZ
-EWR
-DCA

10 destinations with only 3 of those on mainline. That's it. A far cry from 2019. Heck, it's even less than summer 2022.
