They seem to have read my mind - skip the interurban altogether and "just" build the rail straight down the TCH. Still prohibitively expensive, but much less stupid.

Something to consider is that we in NA are paying an unnecessary premium for transportation projects. The actual cost of these projects may be higher than what is stated here but what we see now as projected costs for the Broadway and Langley Lines is not the norm worldwide.
In Spain and
Italy because of smart design, construction and management processes, they are able to build similar infrastructure at about 1/2 to a 1/3rd the cost we build here.
