Seems more likely attributed to possibly being in a flood zone than anything else.

Mount Pleasant Station - August - so a bunch more completed than this now. Compare with MP Station video 5'30 mark above.

Nice, thanks!
Looks fairly short, so with the guideway beams on top of the crossbeam, the overall height won't be crazy tall.

This one is stepped down transitioning to grade before the tunnel, but no, they aren't super tall.

I think I figured out why the TBMs are staggered in launch times.
In two to three months from start, the first one should hit Main street, which is when the second one launches.
The refurbishment crew gets to work on Elsie, in the open, and fixes any defects and glitches and worn out stuff that showed up.
One launches to Cambie. The Two breaks through at Main street. The refurb crew gets working on that one and is finished before One hits Cambie. Two then lauches to Cambie.
The refurb crew sets up shop at Cambie, waiting for One to break through if it has not done so already.
Now all that remains at Main street is spoils pickup. Once One and two are at Cambie, close up work can start at Main street.
Rinse and repeat, station by station, until Arbutus.
Rather elegant, don't you think, in its way.
Too bad the wonderful people in charge (all the Dear Leaders at all the levels of government) can't see the vision and just run this through to UBC.
There was an article today that asked how 1 million more people can be housed and transported around in the Lower Mainland as they show up in the next 30 years.
Well, they will be housed .. going up.
They will be transported ... going down.
With any luck we will have at least one of these lines in construction, all the time ... extending existing lines (such as the obvious completion project to UBC) with one new station, in effect, opening up every three to four months for the next thirty years and opening up a new line (a North South from Delta/Ladner to the Upper Levels highway on the North Shore) from time to time.
Every RR transit line should terminate in a bus loop.
The last thing is to issue a super cheap, all lines pass for the Lower Mainland and to hell with my car.
All students and all seniors should be able to travel now just by showing their ID.
Comments?????

But they need to do planning for the Jericho Lands projects and how it integrates with the Broadway Line so it might not be a bad thing for there to be a pause. TBMs can easily be acquired so that's the least of their problems (ie. funding).

Also for the Metrolinx tunnel they said they don't do both tunnels at the same time because they can use whatever data they learn from the first tunnel dig to assist in the second tunnel. They also said if they are running side by side at the same time there's chance of ground movement.

We have discussed no or reduced fees elsewhere on the forum. I think as long as transit passes are cheaper than driving they will pull some drivers out of their cars. And once you get rid of the price sensitive drivers, any further fare reductions simply serve to reduce Translink's revenues which (theoretically) hurts service levels, infrastructure investments, etc.

Have the boring machines past the condo right beside the tunnel? Those are the units I'd be most concerned about something happening. Hopefully the bore makes it to Broadway without any adverse events.

Probably the TBMs can do about 18m a day.

Here's the press release (pretty much just what Daily Hive posted)

Quote:
Work on the Broadway Subway project has reached another milestone with the imminent launch of the second tunnel-boring machine for the new rapid transit line.

The first machine launched Oct. 7, 2022, and has made significant progress toward its first breakthrough at Mount Pleasant Station, while the second machine is now fully assembled and set to launch.

Named Elsie and Phyllis, after two influential British Columbians, the custom-designed tunnel-boring machines measure about six metres in diameter, 150 metres in length and weigh almost one million kilograms each. Named for Elizabeth (Elsie) MacGill and Phyllis Munday, the machines were manufactured in Germany, shipped to Canada in spring 2022, and assembled on concrete slabs at the launch site near Great Northern Way.

A five-week strike in June 2022 affected the concrete supply in the Lower Mainland, which affected the start of tunnel boring. As a result, the overall schedule for project completion has been moved from late 2025 into early 2026. A precise update on the project timeline will be provided in the spring of 2023 when station excavation and tunnel boring are further advanced. The project remains within budget.

Progress continues to be made on tunnelling work; more than half of the columns for the guideway between VCC-Clark and Great Northern Way-Emily Carr Station are complete. Construction and fit out of the stations and tracks will begin once tunnel boring has finished.

The Broadway Subway will extend the Millennium Line from VCC-Clark Station to the future Broadway and Arbutus station, providing fast, convenient SkyTrain service along the Broadway corridor, home to B.C.’s second-largest jobs centre, world-class health-care services, an emerging innovation and research hub, and growing residential communities.

The project will result in faster travel, better access and fewer cars on the road in this heavily used corridor. Once in service, the trip from VCC-Clark to Arbutus Station will take 11 minutes, saving the average transit commuter almost 30 minutes a day and relieving congestion along Broadway.

The Broadway Subway will also support new transit-oriented developments, which create efficient, livable communities and maximize the opportunities provided by the investment government is making in public transit.

It’s estimated the Broadway Subway project will create more than 13,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction, supporting economic development within the region and beyond.

Unfortunate but hardly a surprise. Hopefully this buys some more time for the UBC continuation?!

Looks like hole is being filled as we speak for the sewage pipe work. Broadway at Cambie might re-open some lanes soon.
