They are more restricted by geography/available land more than zoning problems.

i believe all the units are leaseholds. very similar in that way to reserve land and ubc. however, its within burnaby and not a separate entity like you examples.

Central BLVD & Nelson Avenue. This one will be a tall one. Probably deserves it's own thread...

Will greatly appreciate if some can create dedicated threags for certain towers in Burnaby

That's not Nelson - it's Wilson (over by Patterson station vs half way to Royal Oak station).

I'm working a retail space (4438 Beresford) at the Sun Towers 1 on Wednesday, I'll checkout The Standard by Anthem, I'm also curious to see if the LED screen at the Gold House is on (operational).

I'll save you the mystery.

It's never been turned on since the couple of times they were testing it shortly after the building was completed several years ago.

Perhaps they got some complaints from some neighbours...
(even though, it didn't really seem too bright or distracting).
Or maybe it didn't perform well enought to their expectations or requirements during that testing period.
Maybe the operating overhead and costs are just too prohibitive.

Who knows?

It seems like it served it's purpose (....which was selling the project/units), as far as the owners are concerned.

Thanks for giving notice, I was nerding out thinking I was going to capture the Gold House's LED screen in full multimedia mode.
I'll capture some sights and sounds of the area and The Standard by Anthem site.

Not sure if I saw it properly on my way to the airport this morning but it looked like a crane was up on The Standard site.

Video from Oct 16 didn't look closely if there was a base for the crane setup but seems plausible

Actually just rewatched the video I posted and you can see the bolts/baseplate for the crane. Now I know what to look for in the future

Anthem Properties' 'The Standard' on Wilingdon and Maywood has its crane erected.

So I guess that one is officially 'Under Construction', in case anyone's interested in making a thread for it.

I had no idea they had been excavating that site much less, were already done and had put up the crane already.

Also, site prep seems to have started for demolition and site clearing for Polygon's Olive Court project in the Patterson skytrain area.
A couple of the lowrises there are getting boarded up and tarped for gutting and presumably eventual start of demolition :-

Yeah, Standard is moving forward quickly. It will add nicely to the southern edge of the skyline.

Olive Court is interesting due to its width but I am not sure about the ground level. We shall see how it comes to be.

It's crazy how fast Burnaby is growing. I bet this wave of construction will be better reflected on the 2026 census.

Burnaby's not really growing that much - 28% growth since 1991 (30 years) which is barely ahead of Vancouver (21%) despite Vancouver having a population density that's more than double Burnaby's. Surrey grew 63% and New West grew 44% during that time.

All that towers being constructed give the impression of a lot of density being added but it masks the fact that the city is doing little to nothing to touch all the SFH zoned land and it still only has the population density of Point Grey.
