Nah, listed $2.2 in July and didn't get a sniff.
Pull it down for a day and relist at 2m

Anyone considering buying in the Icon should really do their homework. Not gonna pile on comments above but there are real issues there. The resentment and frustration among owners is growing.

Walk Carling along the front of building. An embarassment. A joke. And the parking garage situaiton is several orders of magnitude worse.

It's been a while since I have been there and I don't get to see the finished units but I am pretty sure that is the 43rd floor East side unit.

Keeping the windows clean on Ottawa’s tallest building

At 45 storeys high, the Claridge Icon is Ottawa’s tallest building. And that means keeping the windows clean is no small task.

Some might think exterior maintenance technician for Performance Window Cleaners, Tanner Simser, has one of the scariest jobs in Ottawa.

"It’s honestly exhilarating once you get into the flow," Simser says. "I’ve done the high-rises before and it’s a little nerve-wracking. But when you see this, it’s like, 'Whoa, OK. This is a game changer.'"

Game changer might be an understatement. But Simser says he loves the rush.

"Once you get past the edge of the roof it just all comes to you," Simser says. "You can’t be scared of heights. You just have to commit to it. It’s not something you really joke around with. You’ve got to be safe and all that."

Cleaning the exterior of this building isn’t easy. Safety is the top priority.

"Our guys are in full uniforms. We don’t take safety lightly," says Brock Beaulne, owner of Performance Window Cleaning. "We use all the necessary precautions to make sure that we’re doing the job properly and efficiently."

Windows on a building this size can sometimes take weeks to clean.

"It really depends on winds and weather and being safe," says Beaulne. "So anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month is what we presume."



"The Claridge Icon stands 485 feet high and is probably the best view in the entire city. From this height, the traffic below can look just like toy cars. And looking out into the distance, it seems like you can see forever."

"They’re very brave," says Wayne Luchak, Claridge Homes Special Projects Supervisor. "It’s totally insane. I mean I certainly wouldn’t be doing that. But that’s the law today. You have to be qualified. You have to take a course and so on. Because in Ottawa in order to go any higher than 28 storeys you need to be certified."

But as nuts as this job might sound and look, Simser says it’s all in a day's work.

"Honestly, never really had a problem with it," says Simser. "I’m kind of a bit of an adrenaline junkie as they say."

Cleaning Icon has to be one of the scariest jobs in Canada. There is no visual reference for the height, it has to feel like a 150 story building would in Calgary or a 200 story building in Toronto.

I took this image on November 18th 2020, nearly two years ago. When I drove by today the front windows of the main floor still have Tyvek taped to them, the entire podium is dirty and partly completed, the streetscape is still a total disaster. Building a 45 story building in Ottawa is like building the Great Pyramid of Giza thousands of years ago apparently.

At the risk of repeating myself, the north and east faces are much more appealing to me.

And yes Harley... I agree with you about the state of the ground floor/mezzanine area. Absolutely crass to have it in such a state for so long. It really shows you how little they care about their residents(customers). Are they waiting for a retail tenant or something? Surely they could fit up at least 90% of the rough in and flooring/drywall and clean the site up?

Furthermore, if they would have installed curved glass on the podium I would be more willing to let the rest of the building slide.

Similar to CP I & II, while I don't love the teal glass and beige, I can't say I hate the design of the towers. But the podium itself is offensive on so many levels. There are few buildings out there with a more offensive ground level presence. I met a nice lady a week or two ago who was planting her own flowers in the beds along Nicholas st. That was cool.

Caution, sarcasm ahead:
Wait, you mean when balconies form the basis for the aesthetic of the cladding, you can finish them without grey concrete/forms/lumpiness? Don't tell Ottawa that!

(I'm also looking at the commie blocks at Walkley. Nice blue-grey-tell-me-you're-from-the-north-without-telling-me-you're-from-the-north cladding panels, and then the Concrete Balconies stick out like a sore thumb even though they're recessed.)

I'm willing to let Walkley slide a bit as, it is what it is. Icon does not get that pass.

Nothing really. It’s tight and takes a bit to get used to. Some spots are worse than others for sure. But once you park and drive every day, you get used to it quick.

Strange that they still haven't found a tenant for the space. Same with Moon (one assumes). Why is it so hard to get essential services in dense urban areas?

Driving to big box and discount stores has become so entrenched over the last 25 years and then there is Amazon which benefited tremendously from the pandemic (although prices are sometimes higher). I listen to people talk about the prices at various grocery stores. People will often not shop local if the perception is that the prices are higher.
