Anyone who has a grasp of basic economics should be able to understand that if the transition to renewables occurs at any pace greater than a crawl, that will drive down the price of oil and gas. This is actually one of the biggest forces opposing a full transition to renewables; as solar and wind prices fall because of advanced technology, fossil fuel prices will fall even faster because of reduced demand.

Cheap natural gas from Germany? Germany got its gas from Russia.
It’s actually boneheaded, pie in the sky policies that has gotten Germany into this mess. They have been absolutely hammered by forced closures in their manufacturing sector due to lack of natural gas supply. German electrical prices have more than tripled between October 2020 and 2021. This was long before the conflict In Ukraine ramped up with sanctions.
Also absolutely no evidence of fossil fuel prices dropping anywhere, for any reason. Instead they’ve skyrocketed due to foolish supply decisions by that are driven by idiological BS rather than logic.
Electricity prices in the UK went up by a factor of 15 in the last 2 years from the previous 20 year average. Although now made even worse by the situation in Ukraine, it was again boneheaded policies that had them well on their way before the crisis.
