No kidding... it will take a long time for the majority of people to switch to EV's or hybrids. Then they will crank up the electricity rates because so many will be plugging in. Can't win either way.

Prices were so low for so long the refineries didn’t make any money. Calgary’s 3 similar sized refineries also shut down.

Once TMX is done at least the product coming from Edmonton won’t be subject to apportionment. Should hopefully help.

Yeah TMX will help.

The lack of refineries is capitalism in action. No big conspiracy.

He's not properly motivated... As he mentions, he doesn't drive much so the impact of gas prices is low. And maintenance.

He's rich, he can afford to buy an overpriced vehicle that depreciates quickly. He still falls for the FUD.

That's an interesting point. In BC and Quebec it would mean you're effectively at the mercy of a crown utility.

There's also the issue of climate change. Although I can't see Canada getting into the same energy pickle as Germany, France or China with its reservoir levels.

I'll take BC Hydro any day over the oil & gas companies. One price change per year, and sometimes it even goes down.

The application would see a 1.4 per cent decrease on April 1, 2022, followed by a 2 per cent and a 2.7 per cent increase on April 1, 2023 and 2024 respectively. The rate changes would work out an average of a 1.1 per cent increase over the three-year period.

Yes, pretty painless and they're quite proactive with programs to get you to reduce use.

why are we talking about BC Hydro? they're pretty good, and all electric in BC should come from hydroelectric dams anyways. my next everyday car will be electric because they seem to be to the point where they dont suck anymore. (now they're just overpriced with this pandemic stuff).

but it doesn't change the fact we still need oil + gas. it doesn't change the fact we will KEEP needing oil + gas. it doesn't change the fact other places need oil + gas. it doesn't change the fact that manufacturing all the stuff we use will need oil + gas. it doesn't change the fact we have ridiculously high taxes, ONTOP of other taxes.

we are literally paying taxes ON other taxes here. is that not ridiculous to others?

that's like being charged a bank fee ONTOP of another bank fee. that's absolutely ridiculous.

They aren't perfect but they are better than most give them credit for.

They could quadruple the residential rates and I'd still be ahead of having to pay for gas.

I just did a trip from Vancouver to Lillooet via Highway 99, returning via Highways 12 and 1. It would have taken over $60 worth of gas in my old Prius C (one of the most efficient gas cars out there). I charged once at the BC Hydro fast chargers in Lillooet for $12.00 (the most expensive way to power your electric car) and I'll spend another $5.00 worth of power topping up at home after returning. If I'd been able to do it all at residential rates (which power 90% of my driving) it would have cost me $9.

And, love them or hate them, BC Hydro is still a crown corporation and therefore subject to the favour of the electorate. Politicians would not last long in the face of large electricity rate increases.

Renewable power like Solar is setting the floor on prices. At some point even in BC it will be cheaper to put panels up, and EVs can charge at their own leisure.

It's just not the same racket as oil and gas.

gas in Bellingham was ranging from 5.09 to 5.59 last saturday.

Heard on the radio today that gas will drop 35 cents on thursday to 192.9, the refinery in WA state is back to normal now and they have had some imported gas etc which is why the big price drop.

There's another 192 in Burnaby so maybe stations are slowly flipping over.
