Ew. Methinks a lumalight is a necessity for any future hotel stays I partake in.

There seems to be no abatement in the Toronto skyline growth. If anything, it is expanding at its fastest pace ever.

The Yonge-Eg pic that Nite posted really shows just how much is going on and how dense things are getting, just a shame that the vertical growth has to go along either north-south or east-west without filling in spaces in between, constricted to transit corridors.

I was speaking to someone who just returned from China and they explained that Chinese cities might have the same population as greater Toronto but all of that population is pressed into a much smaller space - equivalent to the Old City of Toronto or whatever. What that leads to is much more dense, more urban spaces. It also makes them easier to service with things like transit, although the differences between building those in China and Toronto cannot be understated.

A shame that the density of Vaughan Metro Centre has to exist in Vaughan instead of downtown but that's the nature of the sprawling skyscrapers that we're seeing.

Discussions on the City Discussions subforum I think indicate that Toronto is not only growing as its fastest rate ever (for skyscrapers) but also faster than most other places. We're talking up to 4 towers stretching 300m going up simultaneously which is nearly unprecedented.

I love all the new towers going up in Montreal. They were slow to the game (compared to TO and Vancity) but the designs all seem really top notch and some serious heigh being added of late. Keep up the awesome photos!

Toronto is becoming two overlaid cities. It's like a Chinese speculative city trying to sprout in the seams of a Midwest sprawler. It almost makes you wonder why they don't just level, say, Etobicoke and start over.

But places like that also have very few spaces to breath and escape the constant hustle. As long as we keep expanding our transit networks I'll take pockets of spread out density over one giant built core.

Lets just take the stereotypical foreign investor country of origin and combine it with the geographical location in North America and come up with something that makes little sense.

Toronto is continuing on the legacy developed 60 years ago; building towers in farmer's fields. There is nothing remotely comparable to Chinese master planned cities or the Midwest.

I agree that there shouldn't be skyscrapers in Vaughan City Centre. There aren't skyscrapers in Vaughan City Centre because there are long established communities of houses in the downtown area and up Yonge Street. There's 400,000 units proposed in Toronto and at least 50 square kilometres of surface parking/ brownfields. There's plenty of room to grow people. It is because real estate czars like the one who's name is on the new Vaughan mega hospital own politicians. You think expanding the Yonge Subway line north would be prioritized and without expanding capacity along the existing line into the core were it not for another real estate czar owning land along Yonge in York Region

I'd be supportive of leveling Etobicoke.

We must SAVE the historic home of Robert Bruce Ford!

Kidding aside, Etobicoke must have something of value, right? Right!?

^Looking back, how did we seemingly not realize Rob was intoxicated most of the time? Dude looks like he just slammed back a slug of vodka to stave off the shakes, which based on police reports from following he likely did!

I remember him in a council meeting go on and on about paying a company to water the plants around city hall when every councilor could just take up a cup and save the money. These are situations no one knew about when they voted for him. Instead they saw a happy go luck independent that had great campaign parties and, ran on an anti union campaign. The incumbent had party ties and made the citizen bear a prolonged garbage strike only to give the union almost everything they wanted.

I think his party was at Centennial Park which is the other end of the city for me. I've been told by attendees the booze flowed and he was wasted. Those people left knowing.

Job security is when a good employee can preform the job for however long they want. Job entitlement is when a really bad employee is given a promotion and/or raise in order to get them out of that position. The latter situation is the stage we're in.

Pretty sure most people knew he had substance abuse issues. Wasn't there even rumour and speculation that he was on hard drugs even before the crack tape came out?

I watched it from afar and me and my roommate at the time definitely did! The downward spiral of heavy substance abuse.

Then Rob Ford got sarcoma and passed away at only...46!
