Wow, great image harls.

I've got to say this collection of Montreal and Quebec City images on this page is one of the best I've seen on this site in a while....wow. (well, maybe a month for the former)

It's hard to believe there was ever a time when tall construction was that rare!

I still like to stay there when I'm in Toronto. It always has good prices for long stays and it's nice to have the kitchenette etc.

If you put a note in your reservation saying you want to stay high up, they'll usually accommodate.

I remember One King too, that was during the time when Montreal was stuck in a perpetual 28 floor 80m-ish ceiling. 175m to me sounded so tall I wondered if Montreal would never see this kinds of heights.

Pantages Tower was a big deal.

Now, it would be the 44th tallest under construction in the city.

I remember long before the proliferation of nyc pencil towers, how impossibly thin this one seemed.

"Wow that Harry Stinson guy is crazy". But he got it built.

Now he's delivering pizzas and chicken wings in Buffalo I think.

My first introduction to Stinson was at my 8th birthday, which was held at his "Madhatters" children's party venue in Toronto.

It was a giant warehouse with a series of themed rooms in which stoned teenage employees could torment you and your friends. One room just had a bunch of old shopping carts, and you'd load yourself in to be shoved as fast as possible into each other or the wall.

My mom thought it was something like Chuck E. Cheese, but it was closer to Lord of the Flies.

Auspicious beginnings.

Oh man…totally forgot about that place! Went there for a birthday party back in the day. What a complete freak/shit show that was. Remember an old ambulance or something picking kids up.

That sounds like the Canadian version of Action Park! Somebody really needs to do a deep dive on that because I for one want to know more. Think I was too young to remember that by only a couple of years.

This seems to reference a feature in "The Grid", but I can't find any trace of the actual article. Still, some highlights:

Same. My daughter (now 14) was conceived there, right up on one of the uppermost floors.

Good point... I post the damn stuff (like the Cambridge Suites 71 storey redo) and I totally missed that... right of centre in the photo. Duh.

Thanks!

Cool angle of QC. If one had never scene the city before they might think it's almost flat with Château Frontenac sitting right on the riverbank.

This deserves the highest SSP honour.

When your child is conceived in a skyscraper, that's when you know you're a real one.

I was quite thrilled with that tower when it was being built (As others have said, one of the tallest new builds for years), and I liked it's slender form.

It was a romantic getaway (I chose the location), and we were ready to start growing our family again (my son was going on two years at that point).

Since then, our romantic getaways to DT Toronto have all been at the Royal York.

What a great anecdote thanks (Harry will use that).
