the only two people who can win are murray or gillingham....any other vote is a waste....as terrible as murray has been, I will still take him over a conservative suburban candidate whose 'big move' is to build bigger roads.

why not Loney for you?

for me, mayor job is much, much, much more than getting homeless or ex-criminals into jobs. Thats all I've really herd from him. The new Mayor should hire him for that role though!

It's a thing based on philosophy.

PST is paid by everyone, including people from outside the province, when doing stuff in the province.

Where as property tax is paid for by property owners, with the cost being passed on to renters indirectly through rent increases.

So by saying it comes from PST, this would maybe appease or be more attractive to property owners. So he's pandering to the richer side of society.

Glen Murray's campaign is starting to look like how I'd imagine it would have gone had Stephen Juba tried to make a comeback in the 1992 mayoral election.

if Loney won, I would be ok with it, I think.....I know nothing about him but he says the right things at least....but I don't believe he has any chance of winning, so I am voting for the guy who is best for me out of the two guys who can.

I haven't ruled out Murray yet. I get that some of his specific promises are questionable at best, but I think at the end of the day he is capable of advancing a sound urban agenda for the city. His track record is hard to ignore, he set the agenda and got this city out of the 1970s mode of thinking that it was in before he was elected.

I will watch the mayoral debate on Youtube tonight, scan the candidate websites this weekend, and make a decision.

Jenny is awful. But look who is advising her. Lots of bad ideas there.

Motkaluk accuses Murray of smelling like booze except for one morning engagement.

His red solo cup thing is weird.

I'd still vote for him over Gillingham.

i agree...in the end Murray is a dyed in the wool urbanist and despite a terrible campaign, that holds a lot of weight with me....i dont pay too much attention to promises...elections are not like taking a trip to the candy store and you pick the promises you think will taste the best....its about getting to know who the candidates are and how they will approach issues as they arise....gillingham is a nice guy but he is a conservative and a suburbanite....like Bowman, that will eventually shine through no matter what he says on the campaign trail.

I still think murray will win, but it will much closer than it could have been with a inspirational campaign.

Excellent advice. If specific promises mattered that much, we would be on track to a fully-built out rapid transit system in 2030.

So the great Urbanist could not bring himself to confirm that he believes the barricades should come down at Portage and Main. Weak! I heard no great vision from him last night, or in any communication up to now. So either he is not what he claims to be, or he is way past his best before date. Either way - a great disappointment. Murray...lead or get out of the way.

i assume he is trying to just make the PM thing go away....i agree, it is ridiculous to say no. It makes him look like he's lying....

Nobody had a vision last night...it was a debate where everyone tried to speak as fast as possible because they were given 30 seconds each....it was like point form debate....a waste of time...it was unbearable to watch.

Saying no to Portage and Main is a scapegoat for the suburban vote. The reports exist that the barriers have to come down for millions in repairs to the membrane and underground, that’s not his decision that will be the recommendation of the public service. And since it will add millions to rebuild barriers they will not be replaced. Oh by the way since they are not coming back the city can run a pilot project to let people cross the street.

Exactly this. The only thing that will piss off suburbanites more than reopening P&M to pedestrians is having to spend $100 million or whatever on rebuilding the concourse and the barricades.

It's a problem that will solve itself in another 10 years. No need to waste political capital on it.

TV...exactly. With the caveat....either lying or weak. Either way, its not good! I don't trust him now. And yes, as I noted earlier, while the format forced them to answer some direct questions, there was no room for vision or inspiration. Talk fast...say a lot of stuff...and hope it sticks. Really, could CBC not give up 90 minutes of precious broadcast time?

I listened to about ten minutes of last night's debate and within that time Gillingham said no to rapid transit and no to safe injection sites.
