Arrival of the CUN flight is 2250, departure of the BNE/AKL/BKK flight is 2245 or earlier, so it's not possible. HKG flight departs later is changed to 77W, so the CUN plane will probably remain overnight at YVR or fly to YYZ. You will need 1 extra plane either way.

The EWR plane probably also moved to YYZ or YUL.

Not really YVR related but it seems like Air Tahiti Nui will be adding Paris to their Seattle flights next summer.

Seattle – Paris CDG sector is subject to government approval, not available for reservation at time this post goes to press.

US did not allow TN to fly in during COVID, so Canada was their next best choice.

Yes, it would have been great to have them mount service out of YVR to Papeete. Oh well, it is not really surprising, as Seattle is a bigger market and wealthier market,
so it is evidently more profitable to fly from there.

Yes but there is already service to LA to serve the US market. Plus TN had applied for the Cdn landing rights, so..

Odd that AF, led by an ex-AC executive doesn't see any demand either , after they also used YVR as a tech stop during Covid.

I mean YVR got flights to Fiji, that's pretty good. I'm sure AF knows what they're talking about and doing. Not a big deal

I don't think it is about service to Seattle. It is about a codeshare with Alaska airlines and onward connections to/from most of the US through the Alaska Airline hub in Seattle.

Is NH permanently switching to NRT? Any word on when/if they'll return to HND? I have a flight booked next June that I'm hoping will stay HND.

Connections inside Japan are just SO MUCH BETTER from HND.

It might be dependent on flight slot distribution or something on the Japanese end. But I imagine it will continue with the switch back to HND for two reasons:
1. AC restoring their YYZ-HND route
2. AC moving YVR-NRT to 777 (therefore creating more capacity than ever)

Quite poorly written article.....
"Gate Gourmet, breached BC’s labour code when the company used replacement workers during a strike action at Vancouver Airport, according to a new ruling by the BC Labour Board."

....

"Gate Gourmet Canada Inc. had its employees at airports in Alberta and Ontario double-cater flights for Air Canada that would otherwise have been catered out of Vancouver Airport, by striking employees."

....

"The Board found that it was a breach of Section 68 of the Code for Gate Gourmet kitchens outside of BC to double-cater struck work. Going forward during future strike activity, Gate Gourmet cannot respond by double-catering out of other kitchens."
https://canadianaviationnews.wordpress.c...t-for-violating-striking-workers-rights/

Insane decision. These are not Air Canada employees. Air Canada should have every right to double cater its flights out of other cities and even to terminate the Gate Gourmet contract and switch to another provider.

Just flew back through YVR International and was pleasantly surprised to be gated at the new part of the terminal, actually the very last gate and the walk is a little more than before now.

Took some pictures and the construction of what appears to be a lounge on the second floor caught my attention. Has there been any announcement or any inkling of who the operator of this would be?

The blue motif has me thinking it could be an Amex Centurion lounge?
Skyteam has a lounge already. Oneworld has one in Cathay if they needed, and Star Alliance obviously has the AC lounge.

Interesting more lounges would be good.

As for Blue colour. The new Aspire lounge in Ottawa has a blue theme to it as well.

WestJet had promised three lounges for each of Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary pre-COVID. However with their new focus on all widebody flights should flow through Calgary that is unlikely.

The transborder Premium Plaza lounge has been undersized for years.

Proper Amex Centurion would be a good addition. Outside the US they do operate some lounges down in South America and they are just branded Amex. Either option would be good.

Great seeing Vancouver being pro-active on the lounge side and staying ahead of the other airports in Canada. The Plaza Premium lounge in T3 domestic in Toronto has line ups out the door at busy times. In Montreal the lounge offering for non-Maple Leaf customers is sad and disappointing.

A small bit of info here...

6. Upper lounge area
An upper seating area accessible to everyone overlooks the entire atrium space — an optimal lookout for people watching or for some relative solitude from the busy activity below. Another upper space that overlooks the atrium, but is currently completely unfurnished, will be leased to an airline in the future for their own private lounge experience.

The Air Tahiti appearance here was just because of Covid, and applying for rights was just hedging their bets, it was never a player that was expected. Fiji Airways is a much add for Vancouver, because it's not just tourism but also we have a big Fijian population, plus it offers connection opportunities to Australia/NZ/other closeby islands. Tahiti is truly just a rich vacation escape. It's a fun add and nice tail for sure, but ultimately more glitz without function for us, compared to the same service we are getting from Fiji Airways. The Covid thing was never a long term indicator, it was just global circumstances.

And Air Tahiti isn't a OneWorld member, Fiji Airways actually is. So from an Alliance POV, they should have gone there, but didn't. As an aside, the Alaska/American situation is kind of unique. Typically when two "competing" airlines in the US join and alliance, it results in a merging (United/Continental, America West/US Airways/American Airlines, Delta and Northwest). The Alaska brand is fiercely strong in much of Pacific America, in a much different way than US Airways in Phoenix, for example. American might really want to swallow up Alaska, but know it may face stiff resistance so is instead cozying up to them. The new terminal extension looks great, glad it's being used more now, and glad we're set for future growth. Will be nice seeing both AC and WS deploy heavies to sun destinations as well this season, such as PVR and CUN.

Jetlines could be eyeing Vancouver.

A Vancouver and Whistler destination page were added to their website a few days ago. Webpage suggests they will launch YYZ-YVR. Still nothing in the booking system.

Looking back at Eurowings Discover taking over YVR-FRA for the winter from LH, the flight only seems bookable on third party websites and LH and AC's websites but not Eurowing's own website. This makes me think this move (also at YYZ and starting FRA from YYC) is a way for LH to operate these flights at a cheaper rate with the exact same purpose and market.

Financially I understand the reasons why they'd do this but it is a shame to not get mainline LH metal on the FRA routes on the consumer end.

AU opened reservation for YYZ-YVR starting Dec 9, 2x weekly year-round (for now).

Below schedule is effective Dec 16.

AU136 YYZ 2100 - 2301 YVR 57
AU137 YVR 0130 - 0931 YYZ 16

The first two flights will operate at daytime hours instead. I guess the regular flight time is bad for media events?

With YYZ-YYC also scheduled 2x weekly on days 47, makes me wonder what exactly they're planning for the other 4 days, and also what they're going to do with their second plane they just received

I flew YVR-FRA and back on Lufthansa a few years back, and recall it being one of the nicest airlines I ever flew on. Great in-flight service, and wide, comfortable seats in grey "leather."
(With the prettiest flight attendants, too.)

Lufthansa switching YVR and YYZ to Eurowings in seasonal only right now, and obviously just a test run. They are already scheduled to switch back to mainline after the winter doldrums
