I am 100% in support of this and agree with the comments above, but let's get those details correct and give some perspective given that our airport is quite far away from the city centre.

YEG to Downtown is $60 flat + tip so around $70-75

For reference YVR to Downtown is $36 + tip

YYZ is $65-85 +

YYC is $40-45 +

YOW is $45-50 +

LRT + 747 from Bay to YEG's door is 58mins.

That said, PLEASE put a direct connection.

The crossing to the Rampart/Campbell Industrial park is also going to be problematic near the 142nd Street N/S running rail line. Marshland exists both north (permanent) and south (mostly spring run-off) of 153rd Ave next to that rail crossing.

I never actually used Sky Shuttle but I bet it was a good service.

I wish there would be a push from the airport authority & the new regional transit authority to include the airport into at least phase 2 of the capital line south extension. There is a push for no transfer rapid transit downtown and this could be the fastest, most convenient, & popular option.

I used Sky Shuttle 17 years ago which picked me up from the Westin downtown. It was decent and cost $15.

The SkyShuttle was often irregular, sometimes a pretty old/cramped van and never friendly.

I only used it when I needed to, but it was not up to par until.

● Valley Line Southeast
○ The project is delayed as TransEd finalizes a repair design for the piers.
○ TransEd is fully responsible for all repairs, including all costs.

● Valley Line West
○ Construction is well underway.
○ Crews spent most of 2022 preparing two key areas: Lewis Farms Storage
Facility & Transit Centre and the area along 87 Avenue that will be home to an elevated guideway near West Edmonton Mall and the Misericordia Hospital.

● Capital Line South extension
○ Early works are underway (mainly near 23 Avenue/111 Street).
○ In early 2023, the City is planning to release the RFP for the design-build
contract.
○ Major construction is anticipated to start in 2024.
○ The Phase 1 extension is anticipated to open in 2028.

● Metro Line Northwest extension
○ Crews made significant progress this season on Phase 1 (NAIT to Blatchford).
○ Solar panels will be installed later this year on the two new stations in
Blatchford.

● LRT Renewal
○ Crews completed a number of renewal projects this year, including the Century Park Station platform renewal.
○ Crews are performing elevator upgrades at Bay, Corona, Central and University Stations, as well as escalator replacements at Central Station.
○ The Stadium Station Redevelopment project is nearing completion.

This week the Edmonton Insight Community sent out a survey about what they call the Bystander Initiative for the Edmonton Transit Service [ETS]. I replied to it yesterday.

This is an initiative of which I was unaware and in the email it's introduced like this:

Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) wants to hear from you about your experience as a bystander on public transit and collect feedback on potential tools to increase bystander awareness among transit riders. We welcome you to fill out a short survey.

Then the questions begin and they're about your willingness, as a transit rider (a "bystander"), to intervene in suspected gender based violence or harassment. They use the word "intervene" several times in the survey.

I answered "don't know" to many of the questions because I'm unsure when to perceive any incident as potentially criminal. And, if it's outright violence, I'm absolutely not going to intervene apart from calling the police.

They had a few opportunities to explain why I chose specific answers in a text box and I simply said that anybody choosing to "intervene" in a suspected incident has a better-than-otherwise chance of becoming a stabbing victim.

Why is ETS encouraging ordinary citizens to replace peace officers on their vehicles? Fortunately I only have to take ETS a few times a month or I'd be concerned about being accidentally deputized.

Interesting approach, but I'd hope many would intervene if it becomes violent or an attack on others.

I have intervened in the past and would again without hesitation. No way I could sit and watch - I would rather be dead (and that may be the result) than see someone being violently attacked or verbally abused. I will not be sitting there, pretending I can't see or hear what is happening and do nothing ... that is just not how I was raised or who I am - I sure as hell don't sleep walk through life.

Every ETS rider deserves to feel safe when riding transit. Our Transit Watch program is one way customers can report safety concerns, like harassment, disorder or suspicious behaviour, directly to ETS staff in our Control Centre.

Call or text Transit Watch at 780-442-4900, anytime.
For emergencies, immediately call 9-1-1.

ETS staff monitor this text line around the clock. Once a text is sent to the Transit Watch line, a confirmation text should be sent within a minute or two. Staff do their best to respond with a text as quickly as they can. If there happens to be multiple texts at one time, ETS staff are highly trained and will prioritize and dispatch resources appropriately. Depending on the nature of the safety concern and the location, it may take security resources or ETS staff several minutes to be on location. In cases of emergency, call 911.

I am part of the Edmonton Insight Community and took the bystander initiative survey. It got me thinking about my time of riding the bus for 40 some years. Its been a few years since I retired but I would say it was starting in the 2000's where people became more noticeably aggressive on the bus/lrt. With that said, I would think most people on the bus are still women, immigrants and students. Hardly the group to confront these people.

That's different than this "bystander" initiative though. I entirely understand the approach you listed above. If you see something concerning you report it and sufficient trained resources are sent out to fix the problem.

Intervening in what could be a simple misunderstanding is probably not what they should be encouraging.
