If I was a developer right now, I'd be donating to everyone except TEAM. TEAM polling legitimately worries me.

Vision gets money! Progress gets money! COPE gets money! Vote Socialist gets money! Green gets money! Affordable Housing Coalition (apparently this is a party?) gets money!

Anything to keep the city from being destroyed by that woman.

Oh no, absolutely. I just meant less so wanting to donate to Forward / OneCity due to increased renter protections (though still pro-development) or the NPA (less pro-development but not necessarily a TEAM anti stance).

Definitely strange that everybody's dogpiling on Forward as some kind of corrupt developer shill when you've literally got that with Christy Clark's husband leading Progress Vancouver.

Why can't neither be "corrupt developer shills"?

Marissen obviously believes in market housing more than other candidates, but is that really so bad? I sense a lot of guilt by association for being the ex-husband of Christy Clark, but running a city is a bit different from running a province, and I don't think we should judge people by their relationships.

If you completely ignored the rhetoric around him, by his platform you'd think he's any other pro-development "left" candidate:
  • Wants to expand bicycle infrastructure in every neighbourhood in Vancouver
  • Wants to fast track the UBC Skytrain expansion
  • Wants to expand mental heathcare and addiction treatment with no mention of increased police funding or presence
  • Wants to further pedestrianize Granville Street
  • Wants to build 136,000 market-housing and social-housing units in the next decade (proportion TBD)

If I was a City of Vancouver voter I'd consider him over most other candidates, but given the recent polling I hope everyone puts their vote in for Stewart.

I'll wait for the debate. Hector Bremner had the exact same platform as Marrisen back in 2018, and he was fifty different kinds of shady.

Affordability? We need more housing. Crime? More housing, and it'll go away. Transportation? Well, there's no point in expanding transit if we don't have more housing...

Cheers to that, I hope Hardwick brings the same energy she brings to council meetings and we get some newsworthy clips.

Here's hoping for a good showing for my preferred candidates!

I like how you included some of the fringe parties (Vote Socialist, AHC, COPE) but not the NPA

Where does the NPA find them?

Take a poop to 'assert ownership' during eviction, says Vancouver city council candidate
Royal Pacific Realty representative Morning Lee, an NPA Vancouver candidate, had some questionable advice for property owners faced with an eviction process
Graeme Wood Sep 16, 2022

Vancouver city council candidate and licensed realtor Morning Lee is defending his online video on eviction processes that calls on property owners to defecate in their tenanted home to “assert ownership.”

Lee is a high-profile realtor in Vancouver who ran unsuccessfully for council in 2018 and is currently on the NPA Vancouver slate with mayoral candidate Fred Harding and incumbent council member Melissa De Genova.

Lee’s YouTube video titled “How to evict bad tenants during the pandemic with ease. My personal experience. All landlords must watch!” (translated) was posted on Nov. 24, 2021 and was re-discovered on an online forum this week.

Among his professional advice on the eviction process given in the video, Lee suggests an owner dealing with a malicious, bad tenant may wish to defecate in a bathroom to “assert ownership” and that real estate agents could pretend to be prospective buyers to gain access to the home....

Stewart was a no-show at the False Creek Residents' Association mayoral debate last night citing a scheduling conflict. Alvin Singh was asked to be a replacement but he cited illness and did not attend either. Hardwick was as populist, NIMBY, and worthless as ever.

Quote:
The support team for Mayor Kennedy Stewart have said that they want to send a delegate because he has a conflict. No name provided yet by this announcement time:
Mayor Kennedy Stewart, Represented by: TBA, @ForwardVan22
, Vancouver

.Further update: Alvin Singh was to be the fill in for @kennedystewart
, but he has unfortunately reported feeling unwell and cannot attend. So @ForwardVan22
will have no official representative for tonight’s debate.

Kennedy is supposed to be confirmed for this Saturday's Chinatown debate. Hopefully he shows up.

Being OneCity, this doesn't really surprise me.

Leaked chat logs show OneCity volunteer brainstorming ways to discredit political rivals
Ben Miljure
Published Sept. 27, 2022 6:26 p.m. PDT

A Vancouver political party has parted ways with a volunteer after chat logs emerged showing him brainstorming ways to spread rumours and innuendo about people he views as political opponents.

Someone recently sent a copy of the logs, showing messages between a group of people that include OneCity Vancouver volunteers, to Rohana Rezel, a housing policy advocate who unsuccessfully ran for city council in 2018.

In screenshots posted to Rezel’s blog, someone in the chat with the name Tim refers to Rezel and suggests defaming him.

"Maybe we give him a taste of his own medicine and openly wonder why he's associating on Twitter with possible pedophiles?" Tim writes in the chat.

Another member of the group then suggests he’s uncomfortable with that scenario.....

I really wonder what goes on inside your brain sometimes. What doesn't surprise you? That unvetted volunteers (which every party has) might be rabidly opposed to other candidates, or that a well moderated campaign would remove and distance themselves from the renegades?

I bet you'd be able to find examples of NDP election volunteers that are more than ready to overthrow the government and bring about the socialist revolution, and CPC election volunteers that are ready to overthrow the government and exterminate anyone with pigmentation. It's the job of the campaign to make sure the radicals are kept in check, which OneCity seems to have done here.

This is the least newsworthy story of the election yet. CTV might as well publish a story "Expected voter for Vision Vancouver seen writing 'don't' above 'Vote NPA' signs, more at 11".

The bigger story was the OneCity response to me. It wasn't strong enough, they actually didn't say that any of those volunteers were "no longer welcome" or similar.

What would you have OneCity do? They removed him from the campaign and denounced his behaviour.

For what it's worth, I looked into this Rezel guy and he seems like a real piece of work. Big cry bully.

Did they? It wasn't in the announcement.

Rezel is a clown who's been around a while. I will credit his work on AirBNB though. The City has dropped the ball there.

I'm trusting the CTV article posted above:

Quote:
OneCity Vancouver also said the volunteer who made the comments is no longer associated with the campaign and directed CTV News to a Twitter account belonging to someone with the username @Tim_Ell.

can a mayor really make buses run more frequently? I see ads for a Surrey candidate on youtube all the time promising she will have buses have more frequency if she wins.

Love him or hate him, the current mayor single handedly ended the King George LTR and got the Surrey-Langley Skytrain under construction in a single term. Surrey has a lot of votes on the Mayors' Council so they have some say over Translink policy.
