Agreed - and I think MARTA and the project engineers want this too, but it's will take political will. Email the mayor and your councilperson! Tweet them! Every little bit helps.

well, that's certainly a slick video. One can dream. I'll be 6 feet under before any of that comes to fruition.

I would love to see grass wherever possible outside of the stations. I worry that that much concrete would really change the feel of the EST right around PCM.

I wonder why they feel the need to have all the barricades around the tracks along the beltline while at the same time having it run down the middle of the road not separated from traffic and no barricades? Seems like two extremes.

People would probably be up in arms if barriers weren't included. They already believe this is a bit dangerous and will ruin the "park-like feel" of the Beltline.

I agree with you and would love to this as well, but I suspect that, at least in most sections, maintaining the grass would be near impossible here due to our southern heat and drought.

That's exactly it. They talked about this in the main presentation (https://youtu.be/aF6_OJsDcnQ?t=1033).

Andre Dickens is a mess, now under his tenure the ALT DOT project site doesn't even bother with estimates anymore:

https://atldot.atlantaga.gov/projects

The number of projects allegedly design complete yet languishing; being unable to start construction is gargantuan. And many of the Midtown ones being funded by the Midtown Alliance are not depending on the charity of city hall to bestow funds.

Arts Center Station TOD

I posted this in the Projects & Construction thread, but i think it applies here too for discussions on transit.

i had high hopes for him. i was actually lucky enough to have a conversation with him once before he was mayor, at a neighbor's christmas party; he seemed thoughtful and competent and i remember us talking about the beltline and streetcar expansion, which he also seemed to be excited for.

I left my reply on the video, will paste it here:

The problem with this analysis is that they aren't including the costs for the roads that the buses drive on, they are just taking it as a given. The pandemic has changed things a lot. But there is another shoe about to drop that will change things even more: the electrification of cars. Gas taxes have been paying for our roads for a very, very long time. If the funding source for roadbuilding dries up like it is expected to with vehicle electrification, the playing field between roads vs. transit is going to be leveled in a way that we don't see right now. Failing to factor that in the discussion is a failure to accurately assess the situation.

Saw this on twitter. Georgia Tech had a little personal transit system in 1970s.

The pace of development is unbelievably slow... It would take 14 years to connect Lindbergh to Avondale?! New leadership is required, this is unacceptable imo.
